The Kingfisher of the Hunting and Gathering Clan Branch

Originally from a respected Wind Clan, during the Flight's Festival she decided to strike out into the world and find a Clan willing to add her to their ranks. The Clan she came from had coloration similar to a tiny bird known as a kingfisher. Given that her previous Clan was adept at gathering fish and other water creatures in a grand swooping motion while barely getting a drop on them, they were referred to as the Kingfisher Clan.

Other Clans would try to attract one or better yet, several, as their uncanny abilities and success with fishing would be a great boon to any Clan that could get one. Sometimes this was done by tithe, other times it would be as simple as one of the Kingfishers wanting a change of pace.

Paraiba was always curious about the Shifting Expanse, having heard the legends surrounding the deities and their birth. It wasn't long before she was scouting through various Clans, trying to find one that fit.

While she would only end up disappointed, she kept trying with the hope that there would be a Clan that she would fit in with and that would use her skills to the best of their ability.

Eventually, she found the Clan Spiraling Tempest and was intrigued that one of the leaders was of Wind. Spira knew of Paraiba's Clan and asked if she couldn't stay and aid in hunting and gathering-but specifically for fishing. This delighted Paraiba, as other Clans had wanted her to pick up a trade and learn mechanics (to which she quickly found that she was terrible at) and she quickly joined under Yarekma.

Despite being somewhat intimidated by Yarekma, she soon proved her skill and brought back many kinds of fish and other sea creatures. One day, while fishing over in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, she thought she saw a rather large fish and swooped down to grab it.

However, what happened was that fish was really a dragon-a strange Ridgeback no less! While some dragons in the area became interested in the struggle, what was really happening was that both had been caught by surprise and were more flailing to get away from each other instead of fight.

This led to Paraiba falling into the water and panicking which led to even more flailing as she was quickly sinking beneath the waves. The Ridgeback, wanting some answers as well as to not let another dragon drown, swiftly swam over to her and got her back to the surface as he dragged her to shore.

He spent several minutes trying to calm her down before asking her what happened. She explained to him that it was an accident; that she thought he was just a really large fish and didn't have a clear view of him to tell otherwise. She did also thank him, but kept apologizing for what happened, to which the Ridgeback, who introduced himself as Ichiko, told her to stop and that it wasn't that big a deal.

She asked him if he had a Clan, to which he replied that he did not. Paraiba asked if he'd come with her and join her Clan, since he could also be good at fishing. He agreed.

Paraiba did end up asking a favor from the Mechanics Subdivision-make lightweight armor that would help her float should another accident happen. They quickly came up with said armor and gave it to her. Meanwhile, Ichiko got himself outfitted with clothing that would make him stand out against the water and make it easier for others to see him.

The two were often partnered up, which led to them playing tricks on each other. Eventually, they became very close to the point of becoming mates.
