Biography
"Are you lost?", she heard suddenly.
She opened her sleepy eyes and looked around -- but she saw no one. The burrow was as dark and empty as in the moment when she arrived here. Maybe she misheard it? Then another question came and it felt like another of her thoughts: "What are you looking for?" "I'm just hiding from the sun", she explained though she still couldn't see anyone Her voice echoed through the cavern as she remembered her journey. The heat... It was blinding. She had never felt such heat before. "Ah, we see. If so, take your time to rest, dear child" "I'm not a child!", she replied. But there was only silence which followed and the pleasant scent of fresh earth. Then, a peaceful sleep. When she awoke from her slumber, she felt different. Her mind was full of strange knowledge of this place. "Ykwi'maw, that's how they call it", she thought. But who? "We. Those who remained", she heard a familiar voice. Two Tundras emerged from the dark and she knew their names. They smelled like friends, but in a weird way. She couldn't describe it, even though she tried. "Yawdan and Narkein, I suppose?", she asked. They nodded and then tried to explain what happened to her, but soon she realized that they don't really understand it. And neither did she. Probably no one would. There were times when Ykwi'maw felt like a surreal dream. There were times when it felt like a real place. But one thing never changed: when summer came and the heat was unbearable again, she couldn't dare to leave the burrow. And so, everything resolved around preparations for this particular period. Certainly, a dangerous and limiting one, but it had its advantages. She developed a strong bond with Yawdan and Narkein and soon it came to her attention that they weren't really dragons. Perhaps it applied to her as well? It didn't take long for others to arrive. They were from different flights and different clans, but they all searched refuge from the heat. And as soon as they spent one night in the burrow, they couldn't leave. Some tried to escape, but eventually, they always came back. There was no other rest than in the cool dens of Ykwi'maw. She was just like them when she first hid here. A lost, confused child. But now she had her knowledge, her tongue could speak the forgotten language of this place and the tingling of her wings marked the beginning of summer. She wasn't a child anymore. No, she was a mother. And the duty of a mother is to protect.
