T W I R L 'S M E M O I R S
As clan meteorbomber, I had a solemn responsibility to represent my flight and clan to neighboring flights. I love the flight festivals and visit each one every single year. I have recorded some of my escapades and journeys in the following memoirs. I wrote: "I have a crazy idea," Twirl said. "I’m taking a vacation! No, not a permanent vacation, but just a short little trip out of Arcane. I haven’t had any time to myself lately, you know, having all the leading roles at the StarWood Strand. I want to go to Nature territory," she announced. "I’ve always wanted to visit Nature!” I need to visit my relatives, the youngest and the old lady. Besides, it’s GREENSKEEPER GATHERING and I don’t want to miss the fun and games! Hearing of some promising hosts, Twirl sent out, on her official ambassadors letterhead (because being an ambassador was her day job), a simple request. Of course, this pink letter looked and smelled as “sweet” as candy. Not your typical dragon, now, is she? It is agreed by most who know her that she is a really strange bird. But Twirl always takes the opportunity to improve relations between the flights when given the chance. In her dramatic style of acting, Twirl worded her request oddly. “I am Twirl, ambassador for StarKeeper’s Clan in Arcane. What do you say? Can I come take advantage of host housing in Nature Flight territory? I am quite harmless, even if I do leave a few things laying around after I leave. I promise I won’t stay long. Thank you for your kind consideration to visit for awhile with the inhabitants of your beautiful land. I will be arriving shortly.” So she packed up her bags, a very great number of them, and started her flight. |
T W I R L 'S J O U R N E Y
Twirl spotted Nature territory from the clouds above. She set her pads down at the place near the river and exclaimed, “Beautiful!” Looking around for the dragon lairs, she fixed her eyes on her first potential host and said, “Perfect,” "Delightful", and “Fabulous”, for she could not help but express herself in flowery words of appreciation for all she saw. When Twirl had greeted her host and admired the lair before her, complimenting the creativity in decor, she afterward parked herself at the entrance and napped, for the long journey was exhausting and of course, she needed her beauty sleep. When she awoke, she took a little walk by the river to take in the blue and green sights and cool afternoon breeze. Later, to her generous host, Twirl offered food and a gift. She asks her host, “How do you like Nature flight? And engaging in a bit more chat, she said her good-bye’s and flew away to visit the next lair on the itinerary. Characteristically, she left without checking the grounds for the random stuff she brought with her on the trip, as the usual entourage of capable assistants stayed in Arcane. Be assured, she apologizes for littering. She always encourages her hosts to please feel free to keep anything they find or sell it if they wish. After visiting all the planned events for Greenskeeper Gathering, she said her sweet, some-what dramatic and tearful salutations to the Nature flight, expressing that she wished to holiday for a short time some day. This is a true and accurate account of Twirl's meteorbombing activity in Nature, May 2016. She meteorbombed at least two additional flights, but gave up the job when Starwood Strand Theater begged her to play the leading role in "Sorneith's Epic Destruction." |

TWIRL'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS
TWIRL'S SPEECH STAR ENTRY
Twirl perches herself upon the platform provided and smiles, deliberately meeting each eye in her audience. Her mood turns a bit solemn as she starts her story. She carries a book, not to read, for she has the story memorized, but to share poignant pictures of the characters and storyline.
She gravely states, "This is a tale of an innocent, young spiral dragon who was taken, co-opted, and impersonated. She was used in order to obtain something very valuable or so IT thought so. Let me tell you the story of Spira." Twirl stands to dramatize with animated expression and inflection and then begins her very true tale.
“She had a moment. One terrible, deeply enchanting, moment.
Born a spiral in Arcane of respectable clan members who typically mind their own business and sort of reject the whole notion of magic and deep knowledge or so they say, this poor girl, named Spira, tripped right into the enemy's territory and became IT'S victim. But, actually, she was targeted from the beginning.
This is her side of the story.
Spira had heard of a scroll. A magic scroll. No one would really talk about it, so she wondered if it really existed. Her father, Pagus, knew the whole truth of it, but he acted like it wasn't real. You see, the scroll was magical and very powerful, with rune markings in odd patterns, so it was quite unreadable to the average dragon. What Pagus was told was that Spira was never going to be able to translate it and so, had she laid eyes on this powerful and magical piece of literature, the scroll would have drawn her in to read it incessantly. But it's message would not have satisfied her and she would have gone quite mad over the course of her life trying to understand it's meaning, when really she couldn't without a revealing. He was trying to protect her.
What is a revealing, you ask? Well, [pausing] that's a story for another time. [Nodding definitely, Twirl takes a deep breath and looks into the audience, lost in thought among the sea of faces.]
[Then sitting down, lowers her voice and shaking her head back and forth, says] Suffice it to say, she relentlessly pursued this scroll despite all of her parents efforts to prevent her from obtaining it. Now, you probably think she tries to sell herself or her soul or do something crazy to get that scroll. But the tragedy of the story happens nothing like that.
Here’s the other side of the story.
The Shade, better known as IT in our tale, is also pursuing this magical knowledge for reasons of IT’S own.
You see, the enemy of all dragon flights, the Shade, was well aware of the scroll Pagus protected. The Shade also sought to obtain it's magical power and IT was convinced that Spira would be able to obtain this powerful literature from her father due to her great interest. IT knew something Spira did not know, namely, that her father was the scroll's secret keeper. IT determined that IT would masquerade as Spira and fool her father into revealing how to obtain the scroll or the message contained inside. IT didn't know her father, Pagus, was trying to protect his daughter from the power of the scroll.
So, one day, Spira was taking a simple flight over unfamiliar territory in search of someone to enlighten her quest for the scroll and she set down in an unlikely place, which disoriented her. [Twirl puts out her hands as if to steady herself.]
She stumbled, but against what?
It smelled of chemicals, but IT had no discernible scent.
It was dark, but she could see clearly, like as in an enchanted dream, vivid and a bit crazy.
She barely had a moment and IT took her.
IT became her. Of course, all that she was became IT'S.
The Shade.
IT flew back to her clan and her parents. IT settled right in. Her parents, unaware of the change in their Spira, accepted IT in and never once questioned IT.
IT worked very hard to gain the scroll over the course of a few days, but within hours something began to go wrong. IT'S power to persuade and to be able to mask ITSELF was getting weaker each day. Strange things began to happen to the form of Spira. The beautiful pink underbelly disappeared. Her eyes grew dim. [Twirl turns a few pages in the book, stops, and holds up a picture of the impersonated Spira. Continuing…] Spira's parents thought she was quite sick and they planned to take her to a healer. IT could not allow that to happen or risk being detected.
Unbeknownst to IT, Pagus possessed a secret power to [Twirl pulls apart an imaginary curtain] unveil any hidden motives of those around him as it pertained to the scroll that even he himself was unaware of, for if he would have known, it would have been a very great emotional burden to bear [placing her hand on her heart] and possibly that knowledge would have destroyed him and every relationship he held dear. But that power was absolutely necessary and it was given to him by the Arcanist himself for the protection of the scroll. All who entered Pagus' presence would eventually be stripped down to their true entity and their motives would be exposed. IT suspected something like this was happening when the underbelly of Spira disappeared. IT was being revealed for what it truly was. The Shade.
During the course of the week in Pagus' den, IT discerned Pagus' inability to hand over the scroll or reveal the secrets therein. IT decided that Pagus' clan would not be the place to settle. IT determined to leave his clan as soon as possible. Perhaps IT could still find the scroll or the secrets of the scroll elsewhere, somehow. IT needed time to plan. Now that IT found a dragon form to host IT'S deception, IT only needed a permanent clan to gain trust among dragon-kind and obscure IT’S true intentions. For IT believes that the scroll can reveal how to defeat dragon-kind forever. And IT wants it!
And that is the sad story of little Spira, better known now as [pauses for dramatic effect and says in a serious tone] Masqueumbre.”
