Severe, loving, fixated
Hymn has years of leadership experience and great wisdom, but feels more comfortable in a low-key lifestyle. She's irresistibly drawn to baby dragons and feels strongly fulfilled by spending her days with them. There's usually an entourage of them at her side, with some of the smaller ones climbing onto her back. Sweets and snacks made by Cacao are Hymn's favorite foods, and she gives them freely to her charges.
If new hatchlings are brought to the clan without an accompanying parent, she has a habit of attaching to them with an uncomfortable intensity. When they inevitably pull away from her as they grow up, she becomes upset and refuses to talk to them for days. No one knows why she does that, as she's otherwise mature and responsible.
The answer lies in her past, many years before she joined the Empyreal. She was once the leader of a clan alongside her former mate. Together, they had a single son which they showered in love and attention. The family eventually took in an orphaned Skydancer hatchling and raised her as their own daughter. The four of them lived a happy life for some time.
Unknown to Hymn and her mate, this Skydancer had strange tendencies. As her son and the adopted girl bonded, they ended up getting into terrible trouble. No one realized how dangerous this could be until disaster struck. The two hatchlings sneaked out of the lair one night to go on an adventure, only to blunder into a hostile centaur village. The centaur responded violently, and neither dragon survived.
Burying both of their children had a catastrophic effect on the couple. Hymn was rattled her so profoundly that her relationship with her original mate crumbled in the aftermath, and she left him to distance herself from the bad memories. Seeing motherless hatchlings makes some of these intense feelings well up in her subconscious, making her both lonely and eager to bond.
After starting a new life with the Empyreal, she had several more children of her own. Hymn treated them with kindness, but she felt strangely detached from them. She's decided to focus on the children of others from now on.
