River

River was gigantic. But it didn't mean she couldn't be cautious and delicate. She needed at least that for her job! She was a gem cutter and a jewelry maker, and a good one at that. Any gem that she touched was sure to become a beautiful work of art.

She took pride in knowing that she was the one changing the uninteresting stone into a sublime apparel, and maybe this passion could sometimes become a default. It wasn't rare to hear her talk the ears of her friends! Surprisingly, one dragon was never bothered by hearing her rambling.

Always listening, with his warm colors and his gentle smile, Firefight, her mate, loved to listen to her fruity voice. And his laugh still made River feel fuzzy after all this years with him. Anyone who saw them together could agree that they were made for each other.
Storytime? Storytime.

The Amber from another time.

"River walked among the ashes, each step lifting a cloud of dust. A small ginger cat was resting between her wings, where her shoulders joined her back. With a small yawn, he stretched. She didn't have the heart to leave him in her lair, so she took him with her on her search for gems.

A few days ago, she had noticed a promising coal mine. With a little luck, she wouldn't have to buy from the hunters of the clan. Their prices always seemed too high. She lifted her head to calculate the depth of the mine, and then turned back. There was plenty to do before jumping, and most of the time it wasn't actually worth it.

She crouched to let the little orange pelted feline roam around the site. Then, she started to dig in the enormous rock pile that was abandoned near the mine entranced. Judging from the high of the pile, the ridgebacks had done an amazing jobs!

She closed her eyes and whispered the spell. It was quite an easy one for an earth dragon, but she had to practice it for a long time for her to master. Being a water dragon had it's advantages too though. She couldn't count the times where she discovered a wonderful jewel due to a future vision!

Once the clear dark gold aura had spread around her body, she opened her eyes. Now, she could sense the precious gems trapped in their prison of black rock and cooled lava. She instantly started her work : smashing one rock after another, she freed the crystals and stored them in her bags.

There was a lot of small pieces of ruby, some citrine... And even a really clear amber! It was rare, most of the time dust and other detritus occulted the stone, making it less valuable.

Her bags started to feel heavier, she would go back to her clan soon to sort the stones. But something told her to stay her, she couldn't quite put her claw on it. Like an instinct maybe. It seemed like if she flew home now, she would miss out on something amazing.

The spell was starting to fade, so she didn't have much time to prove her instinct right. She used her last ounces of breath to summon a water goblin to help her. With his strength and her combined, they dug like an enraged ridgeback. After a while, all her spell was gone, but in it's dying breath, it had shown her a glimpse of shimmering gold right near her feets.

She was now breaking a massive block of jet, hoping to have chosen the right stone. She gasped when she started to see a warm honey colored stone. Another amber? She was a little disconcerted. Usually, her instincts guided her to rare crystals, or massive rocks. This one was neither particularly big nor valuable.

She still continued to smash the rock to free the amber. It was when she finally got it out that she understood. In the amber was a strange object. It looked like the arrows made by the Serthis to poison dragons, but the amber was way older than them. Their was a tale of another beast clan, known for their intelligence. The humans. Could it be a proof of their existence?

Her fins opened and closed in excitation. She took flight instantly, almost forgetting to grab her cat before going back to the clan. What an amazing discovery.
