Lore

Lotus is a prized hatchery breeder. Her sole responsibility is to produce hatchlings of high value for the clan to sell. Though she could have a hatchling surrogate raise her offspring, she prefers to mother them herself, knowing full well that she will be heartbroken when they are sold. Aries prizes Lotus not just for her beauty, but for her ability. Lotus and her mate, Hemlock, are venomous, making their offspring highly sought after. The pair themselves are intimidating and Aries perceives them as her own personal weapon, ready to use them against rival clans, or members within her own clan that she wants to threaten.

---

The Venom
She felt the first sting and winced. Hemlock stepped back, a look of pure concern in his eyes. "Are you sure this is what you want? You can't go back from this." She nodded her head determinately and held up her wrist again. His teeth sunk slowly into her flesh, just barely breaking the surface. He controlled the amount of venom released. Just a few drops were enough. The inky black liquid began to mingle with her blood. She felt it already moving through her system, it felt cold beneath her skin. Her vision grew fuzzy as black blotches obscured her line of sight. Her knees began to buckle and she gripped Hemlock for support.

"It's ok. It's not enough to hurt you. You'll get through it."

He was right. The effects of the venom lasted just minutes. All that was left was a dull sting on her wrist. She knew this was only the beginning. From here on out she would have to be injected with a small amount of his venom every day. They started this to make her immune. The black toxin that was released through Hemlock's teeth and claws was potent. A large amount was lethal, but in small doses it was enough to paralyze the victim. Just a bit more and the subject could lapse into a coma. Some woke up from their coma and some never did. Some were trapped in comatose until time finally drained the life from them.

To Be with Her Mate
Hemlock was her mate. The close proximity they shared left her vulnerable to the toxin. What if he were to accidentally scratch her in his sleep? Could he control the amount of venom that would leak through her skin? What if dried venom had remained on his claws, would it endanger her if he touched her? They shared meals. Would it be possible for the poison to transfer through the feed to her? He had always punctured his victims' skin to transfer the toxin. He didn't know if it had any effect through ingesting. They knew the only way they could safely be together is if she were immune to him. The only way was to build up her immunity through the daily injections. They never suspected that she would eventually begin to produce the toxin herself.

The Transformation
Some time had passed and the daily immunity injections were no longer irritating her skin. Of course it hurt a little when his fangs broke the skin, but no more than any usual cut. There was no more stinging from the venom. They had just gotten their share from the clan's food hoard and Lotus tore off a chunk of meat. When she went to take her next bite, she just stopped and stared. There it was, in the flesh of her meal, black dots where her teeth had been. Hemlock came over and had Lotus open her jaws for him to see. Sure enough, the black inky toxin was beaded at the tips of her fangs. Just two of her teeth, but it was enough to make her venomous. The dots were more diluted than her mate's, not quite as dark. She would never be able to emit the poison from her claws, or through all of her teeth the way that Hemlock could. Her venom would never be as potent as his. She could only paralyze her victims, never lethal or even as permanent as a coma. But, that was okay. She no longer needed the immunity treatments and she could defend herself with the threat of poisoning now. It was just a matter of time before she would find out if the venom would be passed on to their children.
