          He's a bit odd and sometimes stands in one place for hours with a derpy expression on his face, so the clan used that tendency to choose his position as a Falls Guardian who steadily patrols the grounds. His lava glamour, courtesy of Viola, turns his drooling into a lava drip that heats the moat up just enough to make it comfortable for most dragons to take a dip in winter.

          In truth, he just often pauses to ponder deep things and historical connections. He needed a job where his focus wasn't required because of this tendency to drift off. Indy often consults him when she's on a historical quest. She tells him all the things that she's learned and Otho releases a large breath of hot air as he "Hmmms." This is her cue to come back in a couple of days once he's placed the new information into his mental historical database and can answer some questions about her findings.
He looks scary enough with lava dripping from his maw that he needn't actively guard. He's kind of like a real life scarecrow.
