She had walked into the clan from under the waves. Clothed in only a dark hood and a pendant around her neck, but followed by a murder of crows. Her large wings were hanging at her sides, broken and listless, but her eyes were filled with fire. She had told them of her family, her parents, and how they had all perished in the flood. How she had set out to find their bodies, but she too was swept into the sea. How she was saved by a group of crows who had lifted her broken wings out of the water and carried her to a ship. He families bodies were never found. The ship had thrown her out by the shore, but she still had to swim to land. That was how she had found the clan. The crows never left her side. The clan had no food, no supplies, and little manpower, but they still accepted her. She couldn't fly, but she could work. She and the crows gleaned whatever was edible from the ground. There wasn't much. She rebuilt the homes for the animals and the homes for the dragons, the crows helped her when she couldn't reach. There are sixteen crows, the same number of family members she had and then lost. She doesn't quite understand the significance, but the seers do. Nicaea knows that these crows aren't just crows. They are the family members she lost, transformed into birds. That's why they never found the bodies, because there weren't any left. Natsu doesn't really participate in clan life, instead electing to live in Somnus cave, roosting with her crows. Caldera says she probably won't ever regain the use of her wings, but that doesn't bother her so much. The crows help her when she needs to fly. When the plants need harvesting or the seeds need planting, she is there, always helping. In the end, that's what really matters. |
