Welen used to be just as happy and outgoing as his father. That changed after losing his dad, however. Between the sorrow of the loss and worrying about his mother and sister it seems all good emotion has been sucked right out of him.
In addition, there is the matter of the attack during the SoD. He almost ended up like his father, had it not been for Empire and Narie he wouldn't be here now. This realization has made him almost paranoid about his job and those around him. He sticks close to his family and when he's out doing deliveries he's armed. He trusts no one!
The Priests have wanted to speak to him, but he refuses until his mother and sister are better.
Welen took up the courier service after his father was lost and at first went about it with as much devotion his dad showed it.
He is still very much devoted to the courier service, if for nothing else then to honor his father's memory. He's not so foolish to think the duty without it's hazards, however.
When speaking to Welen it's almost like your speaking to an old war veteran and with the large scar over his eye one might be prone to believe him as such. This is not the case. Welen does know how to fight and he has found himself in a few unfortunate scrapes, but he's never been on the front lines (or even the rear lines) of a war.
This behavior is dropped when he's around his family, his mother and sister in particular. He softens greatly and will do whatever it takes to make sure they are happy and cared for (and in his sister's case, in check).
At present he is expanding the courier service, bringing in extra delivery personnel, at the insistence of Lady Azurefire. Due to the extra hands he's able to stay at home more often, preferring to do the desk work then actually get out in the field.
