The light in her darkness

Born to the clan, Daybreak was from birth a mischevious and playful dragon who delighted in outsmarting his peers.

So naturally when the silent and serious Nightfall joined the clan he was eager to have a new playmate to wreck havoc with. However, the small female wasn’t very interested in his games, although in time they formed an unlikely friendship.
Daybreak’s playfulness seemed to lighten her usually somber mood, and she enjoyed listening to his grand tales of adventures yet to come and all that he’d see when he set out for a new clan.

Divine Ruling

But an adventurous quest wasn’t what was in store for him, and for the first time Nightfall defied the gods and ruled for herself. Rather than send her friend into servitude for the Icewarden, as had his father before him, the clan’s priestess “spoke” for the gods and declared to all that he was to remain in the clan as her mate.
She had with a single sentence made him untouchable, and while she robbed him of his wild adventurous dreams, she did so to keep him safe – and selfishly, to keep her only friend near her.

Though they had been friends since their infancy, anyone could see that their offspring would never be valued enough to be sent to other clans. By all means the pairing never should have happened, and though many questioned her ruling, none dared speak against their priestess.
Only Daybreak dared question his friend, and rather than resent her for her decision, he instead was delighted to know that he was part in the biggest prank of all.

Smoke and Mirrors

Since he lacked for any mystic powers, the skydancer was eager to compensate and not let his mate be discredited. Protecting her secret, he instead took great interest in how others of her trade acted and presented themselves, becoming a master in theatrics. His role became to act behind the curtains, to move the smoke and mirrors of the mystic world so that she’d appear ever powerful, and unquestionable.

His efforts were rewarded as her prestige grew. Together they silently ruled, interfering for the clan’s well being.
And while his somber masked face might intimidate those that come to seek the guidance of the high priestess, he alone knows the mirth that hides behind it, as once again they play their part in the biggest play of their lives.
