Lore

Heliodor was raised in one of the more rich and prestigious clans of the Sunbeam Ruins, in a glorious and lavish residence on the Mirrorlight Promenade. Her parents hired the finest tutors to teach her etiquette, diplomacy and other desirable traits such as needlework and music. Heliodor learned what she pleased, and grew into a well-groomed and attractive young dragon. Confident of her own undeniable importance, she set out into the world to find her own place to rule over.

She wrote to many prestigious clans, haughtily offering her services as a diplomat, and met with their representatives to secure a place among them. To her great shock and horror, she was turned away from every single one. She turned to the slightly less prestigious clans, and then in desperation to those that were wealthy but lacked the ‘class’ she was used to. Still, her services were declined, no clan would take her as a member.

The reality she continued to deny was that she really had no skills to live in the world. Her ideas of working as a diplomat had one fatal flaw – her self-important and arrogant manner shattered any attempts at diplomacy, her etiquette seemed nothing more than a thin veneer over her glaring vanity, and she had neglected to apply herself to learning any other skills properly, so certain she would never need them.
Unable to face the shame of returning home and telling her parents what had happened, she wrote them a letter saying that she had been invited to take an honoured position in an unspecified clan. After she sent that on her way, she went to the nearest clan and sought refuge as a travelling dragon, and spent the night sitting desolately around a fireplace trying to think of what to do. She found that even in her morose state, looking around her at all the common folk gave her a sense of superiority which she quite enjoyed.

Heliodor set of the next day looking for a comfortable place to live. She caught word of a clan living in a castle on the shell of a giant snail, and her curiosity was piqued. Such a clan would sound exotic and interesting to her friends and family back in the Mirrorlight Promenade. She finally tracked down the nomadic clan, and presented herself to them, intending to ask for a home in the clan and present the skills she can offer.
The clan was less than impressed. Rather than asking for a home, she spoke as if it were already decided as her undeniable right. Instead of offering her skills for the clan’s consideration, she presented herself as though the clan should be grateful to have her around. They had no need for an incompetent diplomat or a spoiled noble, but they are a kind and tolerant group for the most part. Taking pity, they let her join them as a representative to the Light flight, knowing they could cast her out if she caused trouble.

Heliodor does her job well enough, and the clan tolerates her. Various members describe her as anything from “difficult” “bossy” and “exhausting” to “intolerable” and “fundamentally dislikeable”, but Snastle is vast enough that they can avoid her without too much trouble. Most quickly learned to ignore her attempts to stir up drama, and the clan remained mostly unaffected by their resident ‘noble’.
