----Papaver was born a mortally frail hatchling; he belonged to a nomadic tribe of Coatls that, at the time, called the Sunbeam Ruins its home. During the flight from the tribe's old home in the Ashfall Waste to the Sunbeam Ruins, his egg was accidentally dropped into the Sea of a Thousand Currents and cooled to the point where the hatchling inside nearly perished. Because of this, he was especially susceptible to the event that claimed his life. ----It came in the night. His father, who was supposed to be on watch for such an event, elected instead to spend that night with his mate and newborn children. It was he whom the fire claimed first; he smelled the smoke and flew bravely into the flames in an effort to quell them with the water magic from his homeland. He did not return. Before long, the raging flames engulfed the rest of the traveling group. Many perished in their attempts to flee; the fire licked ever higher, swallowing dragons mid-flight. |

- ----In a desperate effort to save what was left of her family, Papaver's mother gathered her children in her claws and darted through the wall of heat. Alas, but what she had dropped once she dropped again; the young and frail Papaver slipped from her grasp and plummeted into the hellscape below. His mother called for him, but he was too feeble to take flight and she could not follow him - it was a suicide mission. She swallowed the lump in her throat and escaped with four of her five children. |

The frail child left behind did not perish to the heat. As fragile as he might've been, he was a child of the Ashfall Wastes, and as such the temperature was not much of a bother. It was the smoke that he succumbed to in the end: alone, abandoned, unable to do anything.
----It was dawn when he awoke. Papaver stood slowly; everything was sore and his head was throbbing, and it took him a moment to recall why that might be.
