horizon here is based on black holes, and for things that suck in matter for them to never see the light of day again, you could expect a more sinister purpose to his gravitating personality, heck, his name comes from the event horizion of black holes, which is said to be the point of no return, cross that and the object's fate is sealed. when in actuality, its just really hard to not become friends with horizon, he's a snap with a big smile, and a huge, friendly heart.

It is theoretically possible to never actually enter a black hole, even if touching the event horizon because the only force that can balance the gravity is the centripidal force. That's why they have that accretion disk.
