______ Banished from a clan for the misdoings of a father she never knew, Verath barely knew her mother when she was handed from the Skydancer to the waiting paws of a large, imposing Imperial male.

"______ She'll be well taken care of. We won't tell her what's occurred. She has a family waiting to raise her," Valor's voice was soft, comforting. She didn't understand what he was talking about, but his presence alone was warm, comforting. She turned to look at her mother, but it was only a few seconds later when Valor took off into the sky, the winds of the Cloudsong lifting him to their home. All Verath saw were the regretful eyes of her mother as he carried her off, the vision striking her heart. Did her mother regret her?

______ Lifting her head, she surveyed Valor as he settled on the ground and set her down. She sat, tiny and alone, at his feet, tail curled around her legs. He leaned down, nuzzling her, then delicately pushed her away. She stumbled a bit, but was caught by a long, fluffy purple tail. Another Imperial lifted her up and rested her on top of his head. Lorien, as she heard Valor call him, carted her off to a shady spot where other hatchlings played. He flopped down, careful not to drop her, and set his head down, letting her totter off his head and onto the ground. She tumbled into a tiny Coatl who immediately jumped up to avoid being crushed. He was tiny compared to her, which amused her to no end.

______ The two began wrestling - gently of course - until Lorien called for them to come in for dinner. She had learned the Coatl's name, Menelya, and that he was permanently a hatchling thanks to some magic that'd gone wrong with one of the clan's former dragons. Thus he was taken in by the leader's heirs, Calaquendi and Harkness.

______ Much later, Menelya's parents came and picked him up, leaving Verath on her own with Lorien. She hopped a bit in excitement, wondering if her parents would be coming for her. However, her mother never came for her, nor did her father, which confused her deeply. That night she curled up with Lorien, safe and sound and more than a little confused.

______ The next day, Valor stepped in to check on her and informed her that her parents would be there to take care of her later that day. This excited the little hatchling beyond words - she'd dreamed of meeting her father and seeing her mother again the previous night.

______ However, when her parents arrived, they weren't what she thought they would be. Amadieu was beautiful, with a shining white coat and beautiful purple flecked wings and a sparkling bright belly. Tironos, like his mate, was glorious in his coloration, his shining wings catching the light and lighting up the room. They were from separate clans, but came together to meet her, to show their adoration for her.

______ When Amadieu tried to nuzzle her, Verath lashed out, scratching the Skydancer's cheek, then dove under Lorien, whimpering and crying. The Skydancer looked at her mate, saddened. She turned to Lorien and Valor and thanked them, then turned back to Tironos, laying her head against his side. Verath watched from Under Lorien's long legs, studying the pair.

______ Amadieu sighed, "This is the last one we had a chance with... I don't think either of our clans will allow us to find any more hatchlings.." Tironos shook his head, bumping her cheek with his snout, "It'll be okay, Dieu. We'll find a hatchling that will work for us." Verath blinked, looking up at Lorien, "Why're they looking for a hatchling?"

______ Lorien looked down at her, then back to the pair, "Amadieu isn't able to have babies. She can't lay eggs like other mothers do, but she wants to be a mother." Verath blinked again, looking at Amadieu, then back down. She considered her real mother, who didn't want her, a father that was gone for good. This family, it was broken.. And she had the chance to fix it.

______ Instinct flared to life, and Verath immediately knew what was supposed to happen. This was her charge. To be the daughter they would never be able to have together. They were her charge. Sliding out from under Lorien, she padded over to them and sat at their feet, "You don't have to look anymore... I'm sorry... I know you're my family now."

______ Amadieu looked down at her, then smiled and leaned down, curling around her and nuzzling her gently. Tironos smiled down at them, tail swishing behind him in happiness. He moved over to them and laid his head alongside Verath's and Amadieu's, nuzzling them gently.

______ That night, she slept alongside them, curled between her parents happily, feeling at home for the first time since she'd been hatched. Thoughts of her previous parents left, replaced by dreams of peace and love with the pair she had now.

______ The next day, the two decided to give her a present. They'd talked to the resident mage, Alya, and requested that their new daughter be blessed with a set of wings that matched her personality. Alya worked the magic and blessed her with beautifully checkered wings. This delighted her, though she was slightly dampened when Tironos said he needed to go back to his own clan. He promised, however, that he would return soon. Amadieu and Verath bid him farewell for the moment and settled into their clan's daily life, happily content to do whatever they can to help and be a part of their life.
