Biography

Sakura

"There has to be someone watching over all the love." she says smiling.

KjBK0SV.png

Sakura, the serene maid of the clan, is one of the most well-known wish-gatherers of the Sunbeam Ruins. Growing up knowing that she does not have the correct physical proportions for battle (her wingspan is more than double her length) and realizing that she is also not particularly gifted with the crafts, Sakura has turned her unassuming gentle charisma and love for the sakura tree garden in the Ruins into another career: she collects wishes from all over the world (but particularly the Ruins), transcribes them onto tiny magical ribbons, provides them to the meiko for her to bless, and then hangs them from the branches of the sakura trees for them to become true, year after year.

It’s hard, in the beginning: coaxing wishes out of those neck-deep in despair, recording wishes of those who have but only hours or days to live, flying where she’s never been before, promising that she won’t taint everyone’s precious wishes, those pieces of their souls, folding her wings and whispering that they’ll become true no matter what. She learns to live for the smiles she gets when a wish does become true, when her wishes give someone hope, when she sees things and dragons she’d never see otherwise. There’s a sacredness to her that floats, holds her head up in the air.

She isn’t supposed to have an uniform – her own rosy colors are considered to be enough, purity, innocence and grace – yet as she flies and labors a pale pink mist comes to envelop her, and soon she appears almost a holy meiko of her own, feathered and sakura-lined and always smiling through her pale crystalline eyes. The hatchlings are in awe of her, always want her to return. Sometimes lines of dragons come to greet her, and she leaves with hundreds of wishes from one place, from wishes to see a good harvest to wishes to see a dead loved one again. Some wishes are doomed to melt away on the tree. Those she always remember to give a final kiss to as they disappear, as she knows the gravity of them to those who have made them, the feelings behind making a wish that you know will never become true.

Sakura hangs her own wishes up on her trees, too, every once in a while: for herself to become more beautiful. For her beauty to bring joy and hope to others. For the sakura trees to not age, so that they can carry more wishes for more years. Hers is an occupation and a dream of love; she will not depart until her soul does. There has to be someone watching over all the love, she says smiling, and a sakura rain sweeps over the entire Ruins.

Bio by Aloice

Sakura smiled softly as she looked over the little wishes. So much love in such a small place. She scooped a single scroll and, carefully, lovingly, slowly, tied it up to the tree. Hers was a sacred duty and she would die rather then betray or dishonor it. Wish after wish was tied up, each under her own claws. She labored for hours at her duty. When the task was finally done, she sat back and gazed at the tree. Then, she lifted up her wings, and flapped off to get the next batch.
