Bill is a demon, not a dragon. He's a demon who somehow got himself a custom body, rather like Doxx.

I love this.

The last thing he saw before the crippling cold numbness skittered up to his brain was red and black.

~

He wasn't a pretty sight, spread-eagled in the red coated grass

His hair was remarkably untouched, though it looked like it had been recently slick with sweat. A gash on his forehead where his birthmark was was still oozing blood down his face. The way his head was tilted had caused the red liquid to pool in one of his forever open hazy gold-green eyes, obscuring it completely. The other eye however was frozen in a filmy state of pleading, slightly squinted and gazing vacantly upwards. Salt stained both his cheeks and his mouth was slightly open, a pool of red deep in his throat.

Pleading for what? Bill to save him? The attacks to stop? The pain to end? Death to come and release him, death to let him hang on a while longer? No one would ever know.

His left arm was horrendously cut at the shoulder, no longer connected to his upper body by bone, but by no more than a few strands of who-knew-what. The worst part of the injury was the tacky, clotted state of the blood. He'd gotten the injury before he died; very likely it was what caused him to lose the ability to fight in the first place. Who knew how much horrific pain he'd been in?

His chest, much like his hair, had been spared anything but bruising. That meant most of the attention had been focused on his vulnerable stomach. The lower half of the human torso is simply flesh and organs, no ribs and bones for protection.

The monster had taken advantage of that.

His lower half was nothing but a gaping hole, steaming with blood and so scrambled that no organs were discernible. Dribbles were still leaking from the sides of the wound.

One of his legs hung broken to top it off. But no, none of this was the worst part.

The worst part was that his bloodless skin was still warm. Not as warm as a living person's, but warmer than a corpse. He'd only let go recently, ten minutes as an estimate.

And he'd been alone. So very, very alone. Probably screaming for Bill, for Mabel, for his family, screaming in general, but answered by no one. No one had been there to hold his hand and try to comfort him, no one to try and calm him gently and tell him that it all would be over soon and that the hellish pain would be gone.

No one, just no one.

Had he spoken to himself? Had he tried to comfort himself when someone else entirely should have been there?

Who would ever be able to find out?

No one.

Quote:
In the center of the clearing was a weakly twitching red... thing. Bloody shadows were receding, and Bill wanted nothing more than to hare after them in his animalistic form and tear them apart.

But his promise came first. His boy came first.

He prayed (ha, a demon praying how laughable) he wasn't too late.

He dropped to his knees next to the small shape, hearing the small wheezing breaths and feeling his heart leap to his throat. Saw those glassy eyes shiver, then focus on him, widening a smidge.

"Oh Dipper... What happened to you?"

Gently, so as to not cause him any more pain, Bill carefully laid Dipper's near-severed arm across his chest, then lifted the tiny body tenderly. A weak cry came from his dying charge, and he slowly adjusted his hold.

He noticed all of Dipper's wounds and his stomach turned over. He wondered if... If he should end his suffering a little early. He could predict Dipper would live for another minute roughly, and he... He had to be feeling what had happened to him.

It wasn't actually selfishness that led him to keep Dipper alive until he went naturally. It was the look in his eyes that went don'tgodon'tgodon'tgopleasestayIneedyouI'mscared.

The look broke his heart, as did the boy's struggle to breathe. Bill lifted Dipper's head and chest slightly above the level of his stomach, and his breathing eased since blood was no longer pooling in his lungs and throat.

Dipper struggled to blink, in discomfort with the blood pooling in his eye from his forehead. Bill noticed and gently wiped it away, shuddering on the inside from how unresponsive the eye was to his touch. He wiped the blood off his forehead, too, minding the gash.

He supposed his needed to say something but what could he say to this besides reflecting the words he saw in Dipper's eyes?

Still, he took a breath.

"Hey kiddo," he said quietly. Eyes, both now visible, froze on his face.

"It'll be okay." Did this count as a lie? "You'll feel better soon." That wasn't a lie, couldn't be a lie. "I promised, remember? I'm here. You're not alone."

A pleading tone had entered his voice. Don't leave me alone.

"I thought we'd have more time," Bill breathed. "But... Kid, Dipper, Mason, I wouldn't trade that time for the world."

Oh god he was tearing up something terrible now, though it hadn't fully HIT him yet. "I-I know you hate being called Mason, but... Indulge your demon just this once? Please?" He could've sworn he saw Dipper's lips twitch into the smallest smile mankind had ever laid eyes on.

"Okay. Okay Mason. I've got you. I love you. You can let go. Okay? Just fall asleep. I'll stay right here." He hadn't known he'd ever, in his millennia, be capable of such tender words.

Then again, he'd never anticipated Dipper coming into his life either.

His boy seemed to be slowly heeding his words. He wanted just then to scream DON'T GO but that would do nothing except upset him.

So instead he placed a kiss on the clean spot on Dipper's forehead, then gently pressed his forehead to his as they had done a lifetime ago. From this distance, he could see him letting go, the light slipping bit by bit from those trusting green-gold eyes, trusting Bill not to leave him. The last expression Bill ever saw in Dipper's eyes, unmasked by pain in the end, was love.

He would chase after the monster that had done this in a moment. For now, though, his own eyes slid shut even as he gently closed Dipper's.

"I love you Mason Pines. Present tense. Always will, kiddo."

Quote:
There had been no guard posted at the door this night, mainly because of the trick-or-treaters. So the open stone doorway was left unguarded... Until it was suffused with a golden glow and an echoey cackle was heard.

A black jack-o-melon, carved with one wide eye, was the source of the glow. Then, with a flash of blue flame, the melon unwound and turned into a yellow spiral, glowing with lambent light.

"AHAHAHAHAHA. GOTCHA, DIDN'T I? GET IT? EYE?"

Don't even ask what Soul was thinking when he allowed the trickster demon, not even truly a dragon, to hand out treats.

"HEY, KIDS," the spiral said with a sharp-toothed grin as he floated there. The cat on his hat fixed them with a curious stare. "YA WANT PRIZES, HM? WHEN OLD CLAN LEADER EXPLAINED THIS TO ME, I WANTED TO HAND OUT DRAGON TEETH OR EYEBALLS OR SOMETHING. BUT HE MADE ME MAKE A DEAL THAT PROMISED I WOULDN'T." He rolled his slit pupiled eyes.

"SO I'LL BE GIVING YOU SOME OTHER TRINKETS. STUFF YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE. OR AT LEAST NOT GET HORRIBLY DISTURBED BY! BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE AWFUL, NOW WOULDN'T IT?" His voice had dropped a few pitches, and he took off his hat and rummaged around inside. Whatever was in his claws he dropped into your bag before you could see what it was.

"THERE. HAVE FUN, STAY SAFE, AND DON'T RUN INTO ANYTHING SCARIER THAN ME OUT THERE!" He cackled again before disappearing in a flash of light.
