► SCENES
  • A merciless sky and thundering rain. You look out into the sunlight and see a thousand flashing smiles, but all you think of is the storm.

  • You rise before the dawn, and the sky glows like a blue gas flame. With the sigh of a match igniting, it catches fire. The birds scream and leap into the air. A thousand pinions, a million wings. The sunlight touches them, and their wings burst into flame, too, one feather at a time.

  • A pale desert, a desolate land. Sunlight and earth locked together in an embrace. The ground crackles with every step. You look down, and something stares back. Bleached to raw whiteness. Empty black eyes. Brilliant smiles in every direction, as far as your gaze can reach.

  • Parched and dry. Your skin has cracked. You would bleed, but you have nothing left to give. Only oozing darkness creeps inside your skin. The bones on the ground grin back. They lift shattered limbs and snicker as you trudge past.

  • Their eyes are upon you, on your skin, your neck and back. They press down with every step you take. One day you're not sure if you'll be able to tell it apart from the touch of a knife. Sometimes you think you're bleeding. Sometimes it goes ignored.

  • You see a thousand flashing smiles, and voices boom like thunder. The storm will break. It always does. After that is only silence. The endless drone that is the breath of the wasteland.

  • Voices break. Smiles shatter, too. White bones in a white desert beneath a shimmering haze.
