Light dragons love knowledge, and if there's one place that's a void of missing knowledge to Light dragons it's Shadow's realm of the Tangled Wood. Lewin has a hunch as to what's keeping his people from learning to understand Shadow well enough. It's not a lack of curiosity, for they certainly have enough of that, but a lack of patience. Light is searching, seeking, revealing, sometimes even burning and harsh. Shadow is soft, quiet, secret. Of course pushy Light dragons who go barreling in all full of confidence and the fire of curiosity are doomed to fail. But what if someone went in gently, tried to sense and listen to the ways of Shadow's lands, tried to take it in see what it had to offer instead of demanding answers? To be honest, he's also tired of being told that his interest in the Tangled Wood is a waste of time because figuring that place out 'can't be done.' Oh he'll show you 'can't be done.' Of course once he made the trip and settled in, the place was, to be honest, absolutely nerve-wracking. Darkness and mystery and the threat of biting thorns everywhere... even the light, such as it is, is soft and faint, ghostly and unreliable. But he's determined to stick it out. He listens to the... things, rustling around and singing in the black of night, and he dedicates his time to studying Shadow-based alchemy and potion brewing, since he can't use the Shadow element itself as his own magic. Even with all that determination Lewin's might have been forced to eventually quit and return home if not for Zibah finding him and deciding to take him under her wing. Interested in seeing how his work turns out, and, quite frankly, taking pity on the poor tattered scholar, she helps by being his guide through the Wood as he searches for ingredients and his protection against whatever might be watching from the darkness. It was a strange relationship at first, mostly Zi stone-facedly standing guard nearby (and snickering at him occasionally), but with time they warmed to each other. Despite her sarcasm and teasing about his naive sounding dreams, Zi is still one of the only people who had ever shown any sincere faith in Lewin's abilities. He hopes that one day he'll learn to be skilled enough with Light and Shadow to be as helpful to her as she has been to him. If he believed in luck he would almost call her a good luck charm- somehow his Shadow alchemy seems to work so much more smoothly when she's around. It's almost like her presence itself has an effect on... Shadow... magic. Hm. Another topic to study sometime.
