Lore
Spodumene is a very devout dragon. He was raised on the Cloudsong, where Windsinger’s influence is strong, and he’s incredibly loyal to his deity. Somewhat stuffy and formal, not to mention flightless, he isn’t a typical Wind dragon. However he more than makes up for his atypicalities with his passion and knowledge. He learned the trade of incense making in Cloudsong as a young dragon, as burning incense is one way to visualize the wind, and it is a common offering and tool of worship in his flight. He joined Clan Snastle for the mercantile opportunities, as well as the chance to act as a representative to his flight. His work ties in well with other dragons in the clan, and he is often collaborating with Petarasite over fragrances or with Moldavite over plant-based ingredients. Some dragons find him difficult to talk to, only because the smell of his incense ingredients and smoke lingers around him no matter how he tries to scrub the scent away. Even Chrysocolla, the dragon in charge of running the bathhouse, hasn’t been able to find a solution, although she is happy to accommodate as much bathing as he pleases. As a result, chatting to him in an enclosed space often becomes suffocating after a short while. Thankfully, most of his trade is conducted in the open air markets when Snastle sets down. Spodumene’s room and workspace are located on the uppermost limits of Snastle’s shell, in rooms well ventilated by the high altitude breezes. While he does enjoy being up high, as it is more like home and closer to his Deity, that isn’t the only reason for his location. When he first moved to the clan, he met with Snastle to formally ask permission – as all clan members do after they’ve gained approval from the dragon and Beastclan residents. For the first time, Snastle almost said no. The two got along well enough, Snastle was interested in his trade and respectful of his devotion, and Spodumene was friendly and courteous. But when he walked by one of Snastle’s spiracles – the holes she uses to draw in air to breathe – the smell of incense that clung to his body was drawn in too, and Snastle began to sneeze repeatedly. Spodumene was blasted away from her in a sudden burst of wet air, as was anyone else unfortunate enough to be standing near a spiracle. She drew in more air and sneezed violently again. Several more sneezes shook the lair like an earthquake, terrifying the residents and causing chaos, before Snastle’s breathing finally settled. She and Spodumene had a long talk to work out how to best accommodate each other, and in the end she granted him permission to live in her shell, so long as he took a room high in the castle where the wind would diffuse his incense smoke, and that he keep himself and his wares well away from any of her spiracles. |
