Scaryn

Archivist | Once-Warrior | He of the Fearsome Fangs

Scaryn was always large and strong, even for an Imperial, and he knew it. He grew up with a fiercely passionate fire in his soul, which he applied to everything he did. As a young dragon, he took up a position in the war against the Beastclans. He excelled in battle, and came to respect the Beastclans more than he had ever expected to as they proved their intelligence and strength. Learning they were worthy opponents, however, did not keep him from felling hundreds of them in the war for the gods. Strong as he was, he was not infallible, and one day he was injured, a terrible wound to his hind leg.

Though he survived the battle, saved by his comrades, his leg would never heal completely. It left him able to walk, but with the pain and stiffness still striking him at times, it became impossible for Scaryn to participate in battle anymore. Fortunately, his temperament was cooling as well by that time, and he was willing to retire. He changed clans, finding a quiet clan in the Starfall Isles which was less combat-oriented than his original home, and became the archivist for the clan, keeping records of hatchlings, exaltations, finances, hoard contents, and other things. His leg continued to bother him, but he dealt with it.

Then, years later, a young serthis stumbled upon the clan. Opheodora was scathing and cynical, with a sharp wit and a sharper tongue, but Scaryn was amused to find that despite her constant commentary, she was curious enough to remain among them. She had no interest in fighting dragons, instead finding their strength something to admire, and stayed in Scaryn's nest. He asked her to help him with reaching records sometimes when his leg was aching, and she did so - grudgingly, at first. However, over a period of months, Opheodora came to be affectionate toward Scaryn, in a strange sort of way - she would snap at him when he tried to do things even though it was obvious his leg was hurting him, and would grumble and complain even as she did it herself to prevent him from hurting himself further. Theirs is an odd relationship, but Scaryn is content to listen to her sarcastic commentary, and Opheodora is more intrigued than she would like to admit by the stories he has to tell - both of his own days on the battlefield and of those of others.
