Elphaba is the only daughter of Sarione and Rawlin of Clan Wicked Wings of The Observatory to reside in the clan. Coming from such a prestigious lineage, many in the clan were actually not surprised when soon after her birth it was discovered by the Magic Society that she had magic under the classification of "Mage," someone whose magic is geared towards battle. There was definitely an irony to Elphaba being accepted into the Society when her father was and still is snubbed. She believes it is because the nature of his own magic, and she is secretly working on a plan to get him accepted in.

Her own magic manifests as a form of summoning, being able to repel attacks and counterattack because of what she's able to conjure at a moment's notice. This magic is similar to her half sister Morgause, but works differently in that she can only activate it in a moment of extreme emotion. Being one of the first Mages of the clan, though, she is usually the one to train new mages, like the recently born.
