HISTORY
Veritas' parents' names are no longer known. They fell in with a Shade cult and realized their mistake too late, after the Shade had rooted fragments of itself within each of them. They fled the cult separately but encountered each other by chance later on; to confuse their pursuers, they opted to travel together and pose as a mated couple. Perhaps they fell too deeply into the charade -- it wasn't long before they realized that they'd soon be having a child.

They had been searching for a way to remove the Shade fragments from themselves. In hopes that the Lightweaver could aid them and their unborn child, they headed to the Sunbeam Ruins, where Veritas was born. Although the Lightweaver's magic hadn't banished the Shade fragments, Veritas herself was mercifully Shade-free. She spent her early days among the ruins, some of which still bore inscriptions from Ages past. One of these words, meaning truth, later became her name.

For reasons still unknown, Veritas' mother left when she was still a small hatchling, and she was raised solely by her father. By then, it was obvious that he was Shade-touched: His eyes had turned completely black. Afraid that he and his daughter would be persecuted, he reared Veritas in the wilderness, teaching her how to defend and provide for herself. They approached other clans only when absolutely necessary, and then only at night, when the Shade's touch was difficult to perceive. Veritas' father kept his eyes covered during these times, claiming blindness, and he and his daughter never stayed long in one place. He was wary of getting close to other dragons; Veritas, however, was fascinated by the established clans and the dragons that lived and worked within them.

When Veritas' father finally succumbed to the Shade and passed on, she was barely grown, but strong and savvy enough to care for herself. She journeyed deeper into the Sunbeam Ruins while on her Search and eventually found the Second-Age ruins that would become the Disillusionists' lair. It wasn't long before Nachtstreiter, also on a Search, stumbled across the same ruins. The two Guardians agreed that the place was their Charge and that it would make a good home for themselves -- and their clan.

In time, other dragons settled nearby, and the Disillusionists, as Veritas and Nachtstreiter named their clan, found friends and allies of their own. Alongside her mate, Veritas proudly led the clan, though she was always self-conscious, aware that her upbringing had not made her the most refined or cunning ruler. But despite ceding various diplomatic duties to different lairmates, she remains a very visible leader and driving force of the clan, and is respected by those who choose to have dealings with her.

CHARACTER
A dragon with a sunny disposition -- almost perky at times. Likeable, although plenty of dragons have admitted that they don't find her approachable at first. She is quite visible around the lair and is often encountered by visitors. As clan leaders, she and Nachtstreiter function well together: He handles the more diplomatic, behind-the-scenes things, and she does most of the talking and muscling. Can be a wee bit defensive of her position -- she knows she's earned it, but her lack of social graces makes her somewhat insecure. She is talkative, but when she feels a situation has gotten away from her, she will shut up completely.

She is known for her fighting abilities and often goes out to gather with the rest of the clan. When there are no pressing matters at home, she tends to be idle, often napping in a patch of flowers or sunshine. She adores light-colored blossoms, like daisies and marigolds, and wears accessories made from them. Usually has flower petals sticking to her scales. The clan gardeners are aware of this and maintain special flowerbeds for her, since plants tend to die when she attempts to cultivate them herself.

Has a good sense of humor and very elastic patience. Difficult to irritate, let alone anger. Despite this, she gives the impression of being a dragon not to cross, so given a choice, when troubled, her clanmates would rather talk with Nachtstreiter instead of her. This is something of a relief to Veritas, since she is rather clueless about most social problems (breakups, gossip, etc.) and has difficulty showing sympathy when talking about them. Very relaxed and mellow in private, particularly with her family. She is careful with her own history, since she suspects that the cult her parents fled from might still be in operation. Her parents are unnamed for this same reason, and she refers to them only as "Mother" and "Father". Despite her best attempts, word of her parentage has somehow leaked out, and there are rumors that she is Shade-touched. Because of what her parents went through, Veritas can be unusually sympathetic towards dragons who have encountered the Shade. She prefers to give them the benefit of the doubt, viewing them as victims -- but absolutely loathes those who know of the Shade's malevolence and persist in procuring victims for it.

Big on exaltation, sees it as the ultimate honor and readily accepts trainees from all Flights. She is also eager to befriend other beings, including Beastclans. Veritas is aware that most dragons don't approve of this, but her personal philosophy, which the clan upholds, is that the more beings band together to fight against the Shade, the sooner it will be extinguished -- or at the very least, the less havoc it can wreak. She does have some prejudices, but never actually displays or talks about them. To her, unity against the Shade is the most important thing.

RELATIONSHIPS
25521458p.png Nachtstreiter | Mate
Veritas' mate and dearest friend and companion. They established the clan together and eventually became a mated pair. Where Veritas is confident and sometimes brash, Nacht is more diffident, hesitant, and calculating. It is he who usually handles the more diplomatic duties needed in running the lair.
25629153p.png Gyordan | Son
Eldest child of Veritas and Nachtstreiter. The pressure of being the progenitors' firstborn made him rather gloomy as a child, which Veritas was unfortunately not sensitive enough to realize. Although their relationship was strained at first, Gyordan has settled into his role as Clan Secretary, and he and his mother are now happy to work closely with each other.
25629154p.png Auspice | Daughter
The progenitors particularly doted on Auspice when she was a hatchling, largely because of her poor health. Veritas was especially glad to see her become more confident and helped support and train her to become a clan guard. She is occasionally still babied by her parents and siblings.
25629155p.png Neira | Daughter
Due to her brother's moodiness and her older sister's delicate health, Neira went somewhat unnoticed by her parents. She was more self-reliant growing up, and while she and her parents all get along, she is not as close with them as her siblings are.
31033000p.png Gloaming | Son
Sent to Clan Elysia in accordance with Clan Alliance terms. Gloaming has since proven himself as a knowledgeable and skillful diplomat, one who has brought much honor to his current and birth clans. He remains on good terms with his family, particularly Laurant, his hatchmate.
31033001p.png Laurant | Daughter
Doted on for a long time, to the point that she started getting a bit spoiled. This time, Veritas was more careful with her, and she was disciplined before she could become too rambunctious. Since then, Laurant's behavior has improved a lot. Many dragons see her as a younger, fouler-mouthed version of her mother.

STATS & ABILITIES
combat1-9.png
Veritas started learning combat and hunting at a young age. When her father fell ill, she took up the gage of protecting and hunting for them both, eventually fending for herself after her father's death. She continued learning and battling even after she settled down with Nachtstreiter. She rarely fights nowadays, but still retains much of her strength, and will readily rise up to defend the clan if need be. She specializes largely in physical brawling, and isn't much for techniques or magic.
_______________________________________
vitality1-9.png
Unusually strong and vigorous, with tremendous amounts of energy. Almost hyperactive sometimes. Seemingly immune to illnesses and detrimental magic; if they actually affect her, she doesn't seem to feel them or show the signs. She gives the impression of being completely unflappable -- though this isn't true, and she will sometimes freeze when confronted with situations she doesn't know how to deal with.
_______________________________________
magic1-6.png
Much of Veritas' magic is passive, helping shield her from detrimental magics and ailments or giving her unusual intuition in certain situations. She could probably channel all of that energy into some fierce offensive spells, but she lacks training and doesn't seem inclined to learn right now.
_______________________________________
intelligence1-7.png
Living rough as a child left her no time to study finer arts and skills, though she did learn basic things like general etiquette, basic math, and so on. After forming a clan, she rather shyly accepted assistance and tutorials from better-educated friends. She will probably never be as refined and gracious as she looks, but she understands a great deal about the world now and is always ready to learn more.
_______________________________________
charisma1-6.png
Her rough-and-ready attitude can be endearing, but sometimes she's a bit too brusque and irritates other people. Not a sweet-talker, and definitely not the type to charm or lie. Doesn't swear, but knows all the words. She does better in conversing with individuals and small groups, but tends to be a lot less eloquent when facing large assemblies.
_______________________________________
luck1-5.png
Nothing special or noteworthy about her luck. Gets into scrapes and windfalls just like everyone else, rides them out with doggedness and optimism.
