Jessica

The clan's main hunter and guard, along with Russ. Once jokingly called 'Head of Security' by Sathonyx, the name stuck - although she thinks it sounds ridiculous. This snappish, snobbish shadow dragon thinks a lot of things in the Southern Icefield are ridiculous.

Jessica used to work as a minor hunter for her birth clan on the mainland. It was a stable, if undistinguished, existence. But while she was still young, her clan played host to a wandering Guardian, Uriel, on his Search. Uriel and Jessica had an affair, with all the fiery passion of young dragons. For a time, Uriel even thought he might have found his charge in her. But it was not so, and the two drifted apart.

Jessica still kept in touch with Uriel while he continued his Search, until he stopped answering her letters. At first, she thought this might be a good time to let go. Then she realized that she was likely the only dragon who both knew and cared that he had disappeared. With that thought in mind, Jessica simply couldn't leave him to his fate.

Her search led her far from home, thrust into a leadership role she was unprepared for in a clan run by two inexperienced buffoons, desperate to survive the winter. This can be blamed on the machinations of Rogaldorn, who did everything in his power to convince her to stay, knowing the clan needed someone with her skills. Even when Uriel had been rescued from his centaur captors, she remained, to nurse him back to health. And then to wait out the winter. And then Uriel decided he couldn't abandon the hatchlings he'd started raising...

Somewhere along the way, Jessica and Uriel became mates (although their relationship can be unstable and she has had nests with other dragons), as well as integral members of the clan. Jessica claims to be disgusted by these facts.
