The fact that Plague's land is basically a giant open wound drives Rowland crazy. Rot decomposes and fuels growth, right? So shouldn't the Abiding Boneyard be full of energetic growth and life? Giant trees heavy with crimson Jadevine and blood acorns, thick patches of crisp amaranth carpeting the hills and valleys?

But no. It just sits there. Festering.

Now that he's successfully made the journey to Plague's territory Rowland has sworn not leave until he figures out how to grow things in the Boneyard, and this stubborn, stubborn, stubborn dragon does not plan to give up even if it kills him. He feels sure that he has enough Nature magic in his marrow that his bones would give sprout to one green, healthy meadow at the very least, and then he would have the last laugh.

So far he's having what most dragons would call a roaring success, since he has several small gardens of Plague-hardy herbs, but it's not enough. He wants his plants to grow bigger, stronger, healthier. He uses his Nature-flight senses to reach into the land around him, searching for the slightest spark of potential for healthy life, picking the places with the most potential to set up garden plots.

Things have improved since he became partners with Olea. He probably would have gotten himself killed by now, thanks to how often as he offends neighboring clans by having the nerve to claim little specks of land for his plants, but Olea has managed to negotiate a peaceful settlement out of every conflict so far.
