The Caretaker
Watches over the Clan's hatchlings Born into the Clarus Clan on April 4th, 2016 Carina was born into the Clan after the Hypnos Scandal had finally settled, during the calm before another oncoming storm. Peace lasted for what felt like moments, but following her and her siblings' hatching, the Clarus Clan was thrust into a time of upheaval. The unfortunate result of this was the disappearance of Carina's mother, Nighttide, before Carina was able to properly meet her mother. Carina can only really remember a warm, milky scent, the brush of fur along her nose. And then there was nothing but the smell of earth and the willow, the cold against her cheek. Out of the nest of three, Carina took this hit the hardest: This may have affected the young dragoness' later decision to stay with the Clan and take her mother's place while her clutchmates left the Clan. As Carina grew, she came to understand the circumstances following her birth. It took a long time to fully realize, for the older dragons in the Clan often shied away from the topic; it was not something they wished to discuss. Only as Carina opened her eyes and took a good look at her Clanmates, did she realize... Half of her current Clanmates were imposters. |

The disappearances which struck the Clan when Carina was born was in fact only a piece of the larger picture - the Clan was the victim of an invasion. |

Her new Clanmates were in fact members of the Sidhe Courts, and they could only join the Clan by first making room for themselves by. And Carina's mother, Nighttide, was one such victim. All across the Clan's Guilds, dragons were stolen and replaced instead by these faeries. It left the Clan horribly exposed to all sorts of dangers, and it was no place for dragons to call home. Only through intense mediation and promises to cooperate did the storm settle into an uneasy truce. Outraged to discover all this, Carina took it upon herself to protect her Clan from any such invasion in the future. Her new Clanmates were here to stay, and there was nothing to be done about that - but any Sidhe who thought to cross her path in the future would be sorry... The rest of the Clan was not as keen as Carina about fighting the Sidhe. In fact, under Sonata’s suggestion and Aria’s leadership, the Clan attempted to make peace with the intruders. The Council Majora commanded Carina to keep to herself, to stay out of the way of the newcomers. As a member of the Council Minora, Carina was unable to rebut the decision. And so Carina knew she would have to protect the Clan on her own. She was adamant that she could do better as a Mirror than as a Tundra. She approached the Clan's mages, determined to find a way to change her soft appearance. After several seasons of preparation, she succeeded in her transformation. She adapted to life as a Mirror quite well, although she misses the sweet plants she used to eat as a Tundra and is now unable to digest properly; she can often be seen chewing on the fruit and leaves of her once-favourite plants for their flavour, although she doesn't eat them. Her heat vision and quadruple gaze startled her at first, but it is now one of her biggest assets. She has a keener memory than she used to, as well. The sudden loss of her Tundra nose was the hardest, perhaps, especially when she began to forget how her mother smelled. It was a few seasons after her change until Carina felt the biggest change. The Sidhe had been in the Clan for some time now, but there must have been a mistake when one of them - or three of them - came swooping into the Clan all at once. There was a large crash - to this day, Carina believes that the spirits were lost, that they had not meant to find the Clarus Clan. |

But find the Clan they did. And find Carina they did - Carina, as well as Metzi and Asteria. It couldn't be a coincidence that it was the only three Mirrors in the Clan - the three dragons who had not been born Mirrors - who were warped, tied together in an intricate, irreversible sort of way. The three Mirrors were now the three goddesses, faerie spirits tied to their dragon bodies. Carina - caretaker of the Clan's hatchlings, daughter of the previous caretaker - is now and forever tied with the Goddess of the Daughter, no matter how fiercely both wish they weren't. |
