  There is a longstanding tradition in Sornieth of re-purposing the broken things of the world. From things as simple as cracked porcelain plates to the grand scope of the ruins lying under the Lightweaver's care, dragons have always had a habit of breathing new life into old wounds, creating something greater than what came before. This is even true of dragons.

Aqua was not always laced with golden veins and heavy plates that shone to rival the sun. Once, he was just a dragon with a belly and wings of glass, his stomach roaring with searing blue fire. He was the pride of his clan, raised as a shining example of their ingenuity: a glass dragon, fully sentient, fully functional, fully alive. They spoiled him, doing everything they could to ensure that their miracle was not a fluke or a temporary success, and he reveled in their attention. Lavishing him with bright words and brighter gifts was a sure way to curry his favor, a valuable gift to be had. Aqua was important, and he loved it.

But it could not last, especially not when other dragons grew to resent him. He was glass, not a god, and glass could always break. So in the dead of night, some of the dissatisfied dragons of Aqua's clan crept into his lair. They shattered him. The pieces were strewn across the floor and left to twinkle in the moonlight, and only his head and heart were left whole. His attackers wanted him to feel the loss most keenly. Who would worship a broken idol?

Surprisingly, though, a number of dragons would. When Aqua was discovered in pieces, his remaining supporters gathered him up and set to work mending his wounds, one seam at a time. The glass would no longer bend and flex perfectly, even with heat, so they trickled gold into the cracks, sealing him together and making him brighter than ever before. When they finished, Aqua was as good as new, if not better than ever before.

Nonetheless, he chose to leave his clan.

He was too proud to face them again, the dragons who fractured him so easily, and the others who still believed him to be a marvel. Or maybe he was too ashamed. Aqua knew he would miss the kindness and the attention they bestowed upon him, but it was time to move forward. Forward and away.

So he traveled Sornieth to find a place that had not yet heard of him, and once he felt safely anonymous, he began to stoke the fire in his belly, bringing new glass to life with every breath, and touching it up with swirls of molten gold. It reflects his condition well, and he works at a steady pace, never wavering and always sitting with a cauldron of gold at hand to remedy his mistakes.
