It took some convincing, but finally Seaweed relented and brought the golden statue back to the clan (along with the Golden Featherfin, which Seaweed had wanted to release for a wish, but Mariela argued that its wish should be saved for an emergency). Many dragons questioned the usefulness of such a statue, but all their arguments died away as they beheld its beauty. At first the statue was displayed prominently in the common area, where everyone could see it. Dragons would often stop to admire it as they made their way across the lair, and all agreed that it was a magnificent work of art. The Nocturne statue gleamed brightly in the light of the magical lamps, and the fishing net that had snared it was draped across its shoulders like a cloak or cape. But then the clan leaders noticed disturbing behaviors. It started with dragons rubbing the statue's hands for luck, or for wealth. A silly superstition, but harmless. Then dragons began leaving offerings for the statue. A flower placed at the base of the statue, some treasure scattered at its feet, a ribbon tied around its neck - someone had even prepared a full meal for the statue. It was clear that some dragons - if not most of the clan - were worshiping the new statue as a god of wealth and treasure. Radiance knew this had to end. She would not tolerate any blasphemy in her clan - not while the Eleven still ruled and shaped Sornieth, and certainly not while the Spiral Keep was right next door. Radiance ordered the statue to be moved to the very back of the lair, where it would be out of the way. After the Matriarch berated her clan and reminded them that the the only gods in this world were the Eleven, the Clan of Roaring Waters returned to its senses and made several offerings to the deities to beg forgiveness. |

Ever since the clan experienced its second Night of the Nocturne, dragons have reported seeing a pale orange Crystal Carrier with a giant pearl swimming in the pool with the Golden Featherfin. However, they only see it in the corners of their eyes. Anyone who looks at the pool head-on or tries to grab the Crystal Carrier are unable to find it, causing some dragons to wonder whether it actually exists or if it's just a figment of their imagination. Recently a Golden Kitsune has taken up residence in the statue's room, apparently drawn to its expensive value. The kitsune refuses to become the familiar of any of the living dragons in the clan, though it gladly gobbles up the tasty treats they leave out for it. Instead it seems content to rest by the feet of the golden Idol and the other statue in the room, a Guardian Sculpture carved from crystal. |
