At first, the plague was a mere inconvience. Blizzard was in the midst of working on improving her skill in combat, being taught by both Ilar and Serafina. The plague's arrival caused her training to be put on hiatus. Alas, she understood the danger present, despite being annoyed by it.

She and her mates, Cerin and Kapnos, held themselves up in their den for the most part. However, soon Cerin began to see the mental impact of a plague confining everyone to their dens on both of them. True, with his influence, the impact was limited, but that showed him that his clanmates needed him. Thus, Cerin began leaving their den in order to visit and help the rest of the clan. She and Kapnos begged him not to, but he insisted it was his duty.

When Cerin fell ill, she hates to admit she was not surprised. It was minor at first, something he brushed off, but quickly became more severe, letting them recognize it for what it was and force Cerin to the healers' den.

Blizzard and Kapnos both feared for Cerin's life and would seak out updates from the healers whenever they were out gathering food. Unfortunately, there was never good news. In fact, the only news they got seemed to be bad.

First, Iceflame fell ill alongside all their already sick clanmates and mate. Then, Acid became the only healer that hadn't caught it and was left alone to try and find a cure. Finally, the plague started taking victims. Every day, as they would pass by the healers' den on their way to and from gathering food, there would be dead bodies stacked up outside to be buried. When Cerin and Iceflame's bodies joined the stack, she lost hope of a cure.

After a time, there were no more dragons falling ill and everyone who had fallen ill had passed on. Finally, the plague appeared to have vanished. But Blizzard did not see hope even if the plague had moved on.

They remained isolated for a time more, everyone wanting to verify that the plague had truly passed. When a clan meeting of survivors finally was called, she saw that only ten had survived.

At first, during the meeting, she remained silent. Then, Ilar challenged Acal for who should lead the clan and Blizzard was torn between the two sides. She wanted to honor Lord Iceflame's wishes of having Acal be her successor, but she also privately agreed with Ilar's argument. A leader has to be strong for the sake of the clan and Acal showed his emotions too freely. If a leader is in emotional distress, that will then trickle down to the clan and thus could cause mass panic, which then leads to chaos.

Making the difficult choice when the two sides were drawn, she went with Ilar. A strong leader is best and Ilar is one of the strongest dragons within the clan.
