B I O G R A P H Y

Ruess prowled. The moonlight fell down in pale beams, barely lighting up the ground under his feet. It was a good thing he no longer needed to see the ground under his feet. He didn't need to see anything, as a matter of fact. He knew the ground, the air, the twists and turns of his path better than he knew himself. He had spent too much time studying his path and his duties on it to not know it. He paused in the path and fiddled with his blindfold, tightened it. Then he hurried on,
quickly, to make up for his pause. His ears swiveled for sounds and his nose twitched as he sniffed at the air. Nothing would escape his attention, even if it escaped his sight.

It was cold. Ruess didn't mind, not really. He did pull his scarf closer though. Other dragons didn't seem to mind, huddled closer together as they laughed and shared the food and warmth of the party. They didn't notice the cold. He tried not to think about it, about how nice it might be to have someone of his own to huddle with. He glowered coldly at a dragon when they came too close, and they quickly skirted around him. Being cold wasn't a big deal. Not bad. Just uncomfortable. He sighed quietly and rested his chin on his hands. Not bad at all.

Ruess wasn't really a dragon who meandered a lot, but it was different when Dolce was around. Everything was different when she was around. So he meandered with her. His tongue felt thick and heavy, and he struggled to find the words to begin a proper conversation with her. He swallowed and tried, something aimless about the weather. She answered, and he replied, and a horribly awkward conversation bloomed out of the silence that was so common around Ruess. But at least it was a beginning. He hesitated as a line crossed his mind, something stupid and silly about the sound of her voice being better than the feeling of the sun. He stumbled over it and blushed when it was finally out. But she laughed and thanked him. She enjoyed it. And a warmth like he'd never known exploded in his chest and filled him to the brim.
