"Don’t know why bad things happened, but they did. Down for a minute I get up again. It’s been the worst year I’ve lived but I’m better now than I have ever been. I’m not leaving again."
❁ STORY
Born to a long line of royalty, Aora’s family is incredibly strong magically. And while the seat of Sekhri power remains in the Sunbeam Ruins, many of their successors were born in other regions. Supposedly this is to increase the magical affinities to other elements; the ideal heir being one capable of the most various types of magic. The secret of her bloodline, however, is their ability for manipulation. While Aora might sport Wind eyes, Sekhri’s Light magic runs through her veins and her family taught her the skills to control others with words. Anything she says sounds believable when imbued with her magic, all her suggestions or requests sound most reasonable and there is no room in the addled brains of those under her thrall for questioning. This secret magic is how the Sekhri clan has maintained control of their lands and subjects for thousands of years. The funny thing is, even though Aora was heir apparent and a gifted witch, she was still subjected to this magic when used by her family. Her actions controlled and her thoughts limited. Until she outstripped the others magically and overcame their glamours. At which point she realised that perhaps their way of ruling was… unjust. Raising questions in her clan was a terrible idea, though. Her family cast her out on the pretence of needing a well-educated heir. Then put a bounty on her head. Aora, by some miracle, evaded death. And within the boundaries of the Reliquary her past cannot touch her. Or rather, her new family won’t allow it. Her manipulatory talents are quite similar to Anthelion’s emotional influencing magics and so they share a sort of kinship. Aora looks up to Anthelion, seeing her as a mentor in moving past the things she’s done and the burden she bears. For no matter how cheerful and kind she is, few can trust that she isn’t altering their behaviour somehow. Consequently, Aora is sad; she hides it behind brilliant smiles and bubbly optimism, but it hurts not to be trusted. Unlike Anthelion, who puts her gifts to use by screening those who come into the clan, Aora utilises hers by mediating disputes and delegating arguments or important meetings. For this reason, she often accompanies Crossfire on diplomatic meetings or sits in on Assembly gatherings. A true pacifist, Aora has absolutely no fighting ability whatsoever, much preferring to use her words to get her out of a sticky spot. Her royal upbringing also left her with not insignificant skills with handling politics and culture differences. She and Daeddrin get on quite well given their similar family backgrounds, though while he avoids anything to do with his heritage Aora is more than happy to provide Kieri and the council with political advice. Gentle and kind, Aora is every bit the princess her family wanted. Thankfully, there is no intrigue in the Reliquary and she’s free to be exactly who she was born to be: a sweet summer child who smiles because she can’t bear to see others’ sorrow. ❁ OTHER
