Stern

Stern is the captain of an ironclad named the Slattern that sails the southern/western seas off of the coast of the Starfall Isles. Stern is the brother to Nairobi, but his stubbornness and way of dealing with tragedy drove the two apart. When Nairobi and Stern's parents died, Nairobi did all she could to honour them but Stern ran from it. His inability to deal with things like that turned his sister away from him, but it is what has drawn him his crew too. Stern is, as his name suggests, is unrelenting in his decisions and actions. This crosses into his personality as Captain, having tight but fair rules to keep his crew in line and safe.

Stern discovered the Slattern, as the ship is named, along the northwestern coast of the Scarred Wasteland with the guidance of Rorrim. The ship, well kept even though it had been beached for years, proved to be a challenge to reform, but Stern did it after several years and taking out some exorbitant debts. Stern, having paid the debts off already, is well on his way to being the most famous captain on the seas, given his crew and ship's reputation already.

Stern covers his eye due to an incident that occured when when he met Skinner. Finding Skinner assailed by dragons near the Scarred Wasteland's shores on the Sea of a Thousand Currents, Stern intervened in the brawl. Stern held his own fairly well until he was struck in the face with a bolt of festering magic. The wastrels fled in case any other dragons were coming, leaving the injured Stern to be tended to by the even more injured Skinner. Skinner dragged Stern back to his crew and was heralded as a hero for saving the captain. The two keep the event a secret between the two, and Stern continues to be sensitive about his eye.

Stern's eye has been altered due to the pestilent magic. It is now laced with a small amount of Plague magic and has mutated. The eye is photophobic, autonomous in movement, and tinted crimson. The area around the eye has also been stripped of fur. Stern covers it with a patch and only uncovers it in severe darkness because it can see better in those conditions than his healthy eye. Stern is quite sensitive on the topic of his eye and typically tries to avoid it if he can.

Stern and his sister Nairobi don't get along anymore. Stern and Nairobi separated after their parents died. Whereas Nairobi stayed in the Quarry and followed in their mother's footsteps as a potion brewer, Stern became a captain. That had always been his dream, but with his parents' death, Stern finally had a reason not to return. That left a soreness between the two siblings.

Stern's crew consists of Skinner, Mobius, Rorrim, Longfellow and others.
