Kolos kind of freaks me out. I mean, he's very friendly and easy going and everyone else in the clan likes to tease him and joke around with him (he has a really good sounding laugh), but I guess it's that he's a Seer, which means he can see and talk to Death. Not that he has reason to do that very often. His primary duty is as the clan's oath keeper. He witnesses them and makes sure no one breaks them, and sets mythic consequences for if they do. The harshness of these consequences depends on the seriousness of the matter, but he doesn't tend to make them very strong. He's young, and adheres to a more compassionate school of thought than some of the older ones I've heard of and, on occasion, met.

There was some confusion when he was first brought in; some dragons thought he was going to be our new Shaman, as we're currently without one. I guess the clan had never had a Seer before, and wasn't sure at first why we needed one, though now they are always saying that they can't remember what they did without him. I guess they used to have a Shaman, but he moved on shortly before I came. Not all Shamans stay with one clan their whole life; sometimes, the clan's energy changes, and they find that they are no longer a good fit, losing some of their ability for insight, which makes them no longer as helpful for the clan. Sometimes it's the Shaman that changes. I heard that the last Shaman and his mate made a mutual decision to split ways. Perhaps he felt in need of a new start.

Either way, we are without a Shaman until a replacement can be found, which causes it's difficulties, especially with all the death rites that we've had to preform in the last several weeks. Usually, rites are the business of a Shaman, but Histan, clan father; Lycra, clan mother and healer; Kolos, clan Seer; and Minerva, clan witch, were forced to collaborate and improvise. I overheard them discussing whether or not they should ask a neighboring Shaman for his services, but I guess they decided against it. I don't know if there was a vote; I was never asked. Not that I would mind if they did hold a vote without me; I never knew the deceased very well, I was brand new to this place when the plague hit. Perhaps it was just up to their families.

Anyway, I've gotten off topic. Basically, Kolos isn't going to be our Shaman, so we probably need to find one.

Entry #2:

We've got ourselves a Shaman, her name is SachinKie, and she came with a friend. A witch named BlueLily. I guess they've been traveling about together for a little while... anyway Kolos is smitten. With Blu, I mean. I don't think she's quite made up her mind about him yet, though I know she think's he's cute. He's a pretty hopeless case of adorable whenever he's around her, which makes him seem a little immature. She's very mature, so that actually might be kind of a problem.

Entry #3:

Well, now they have eggs. Kolos is excited but kind of sheepish about it; he's such a kid, it's kind of cute. She, on the other hand, is absolutely glowing. Over the moon. Walking on clouds.

I want to feel that way someday. Someday. But not today. Today I am too busy composing pirate songs with Scarlett and collecting pretty rocks for two of the new hatchlings, who are feeling a bit under the weather.

KolosOrcus:

Kolos is a Wildclaw from the Light flight who was brought in by Histan to be the clan Seer. Histan was growing concerned about the emotional direction the clan was going, and thought some clairvoyance might help.

Kolos is very good natured, and can be trusted to always laugh at your jokes. He listens patiently to the ramblings of the older dragons and their imagined ailments and visions, and listens with respect to those who have wisdom to share. He is a bit clueless as to what to do with children, which they find hilarious, and is a bit of an overachieving, bumbling lover, which his mate finds adorable. Most of the time. I mean, sometimes he drives her crazy, but that just happens sometimes, no matter who you are or who you're with.

"Kolos" is his given name, and "Orcus" is the title of his Seer chapter. The Orcus chapter is a newer, younger chapter, which emphasizes a Seer's role as a supportive member of their community, rather than the deep, dark mysticism that is the focus of some other chapters. Of course, they wouldn't be Seers if they weren't also mystics, so it's still a part of what they do, but members of the Orcus chapter tend to do away with some of the mystery and dread that has surrounded their art in the past.
