This ritual had to be perfect. She had to be perfect.

She had prepared this ritual for months. The crystals were set. The nature receptacles had been placed on each point of the reddish-brown pentagram, which was drawn in congealing tree sap. An assortment of pretty flowers and woods were set around the borders. They would lend her their powers, and allow this ritual to succeed. She would be eternally youthful. She would be perfect.

The fae steps into the middle and casts the spell, chanting to the ancient nature spirits to hear her pleas. The brown fur of the wolf pelt stirs in the winds, as tawny feathers from her wings rustle against her scales. She extends her left hand, producing tree sap in a bowl carved from the heart of an oak tree. Applying magic to the circle, she feels the essences of the receptacles combine, shifting into the amber tree sap. She prays to the Gladekeeper- not her deity, but the one she will call on- to answer her.

She lifts the bowl to her mouth and drinks the bitter- or is it sickly sweet?- tree sap, which drips slowly from the edge. Each honeyed drop fills her with power. The fae feels herself becoming light-headed. Is it just the sap, or is the ritual working?

A flurry of leaves suddenly rise around her. The fae feels a strange rush of magical energy, swirling, masquerading as the wind, picking up all the beautiful flowers and woods she has painstakingly collected. A burst of magic from the excited fae is responded with a stronger burst of magic from the winds. The dragon reaches her left hand out, and the bowl she has drained clatters onto the ground, where it transforms into a patch of lush vegetation. The fae is amazed at this new power, reaching out farther to run a claw through the winds, which respond to her by changing to a light green glow and growing stronger.

The fae feels her cape grow lighter. Or did it grow heavier? The wolf’s essence binds to her own in a flash of brown. Her feathered wings, fashioned from bird feathers and amber, bind with her own scales. She flaps them gently, watching vibrant flowers and saplings sprout and take root in the path of the wind created from her wings. Stray feathers turn to falling leaves. Plants take root in her wings, quickly growing into a branching tree. It sprouts leaves and blossoms, bursting a shower of pink petals down to the ground.

Everywhere the fae looks, a myriad of life is present. Every scale on her body tingles; the magical energy radiates strongly from the fae. Plants and grasses grow out from the earth surrounding the dragon, rustling with the magical energy. The energy she has taken on is overwhelming the fae. She is becoming both drowsy and energised; her body becomes heavier as the essence lifts her spirit. It is time for the last part of the ritual. The forest spirit closes her eyes, and her body fades and turns to a storm of leaves as her spirit splits off and soars free.

____The fae was the firstborn of two clan founders, and thus was crowned a princess. Given to a wind clan as a sign of good relations, she moved far away from her homeland to the Zephyr Plains. Though the clans were joyful and the celebration was marked by thousands of green and orange streamers, the fae was bitter and saddened. This was nothing like her home clan. It was strange, and foreign, and she wanted nothing more than to return to the arcane territory.

Life in the new clan was strange for her, and everyone in that clan was so… radiant. The more time she spent in the clan, the more she grew frustrated with how… imperfect- she was. This thought twisted inside her, until the only thing she could focus on was how flawed she was. Twisted by vain and narcissism, she decided to undergo a ritual in pursuit of perfection. She would be the most perfect one of the clan. This ritual would make the others worship her; she would be the one they looked up to. She would no longer be the ugly duckling of her family. She would be the most perfect.

Similau
(I Similau, I Similau, I Similau, I Similau)

Spirit in the wood beat the hollow cane
Spirit in the wood take away the pain
Make the body ripe and alive again
I Similau (I Similau, I Similau)

Spirit in the heart make the blood flow fast
Spirit in the heart make the beauty last
Keep the hope alive when the youth go past
I Similau (I Similau, I Similau)

When my lover comes upon the scene
Drop a petal from the tree
Fling the mountain up into the sky
Fill the river with the sea

Spirit in the wood let the hollow cane
Echo in the afterglow
Waiting for the flame to burn again
I Similau (I Similau I Similau)

____The ritual turned her into a forest spirit, and she shed her mortal body for a divine guise. The fae had become a god of life, and the wind clan had been stunned in awe by her powers. They began to worship her, and she rose to power after she was deemed blessed by the clan. This worship grew her powers even further; eventually, she became one of the three rulers of the clan.

She will keep the balance between life and death. She is the one who creates life in the clan, and the one that provides their sustenance. The forest god is idolised by the clan. The forest god controls the clan. No longer is she the pitiful arcane princess.

Now she is eternal. Now she is perfect. The forest spirit will govern life itself.
