Haimatos

Haimatos has secrets. Many, many tiresome secrets.

He has wandered Sornieth, abandoning clans that found his enigmatic silences too difficult to resist, spending long periods by himself before returning and trying, once again, to find a home among normal dragons. Rumors of a clan of unusual tolerance brought him to the Lair by the Sea, but he had few expectations. If it was possible for such as he to become more jaded, or jaded again, then he had managed.

But the days went by, and became months, and the months became a year, and still, he remains among the clan, sorely confused by their lack of concern over his life before.

He's never felt so... accepted.

Every society that has an economy has a black market, and the underworld that supports it. In his former life, Haimatos spied on other powerful dragons for his employers, reporting on their activities and sometimes... curtailing them. But it was not a savory path, and his discontent with it grew until one moment made it clear how much he hated his life. So he checked out, and with a few carefully chosen demonstrations made it clear that he would deal with anyone who came after him for leaving.

He escaped the underworld, but ironically, his reputation as a dangerous and powerful dragon had him fending off offers from dragons eager to become his employees. A de facto crime boss himself, now, if an eccentric one; he finds it ironic, when it doesn't revolt him. Now and then he fights to defend territory he doesn't want, and a reputation he finds repugnant, but he is nothing if not a pragmatist. The right to be left alone, like other rights, must be defended from encroachers. And the underworld is full of encroaching dragons.

That he might find a home where he might do something more wholesome... he never thought it possible. And yet here he is, among blameless dragons who have never demanded an accounting of his past. Who have let him leave it buried. He finds them baffling.

Haimatos does not question his growing and ferocious desire to protect his new clan. And if, now and then, something they need and can't find can be acquired through contacts he still has, well. If he's going to be forced to keep a wingtip in the business, he might as well get something out of it.
