Biography

| SHARD JUNIOR | [♫] The Light
{ Ambassador for Magic | He/Him | Gay }

Shard Junior’s childhood was an easy one. Like many of Feldspar’s children, he grew up safe and happy, sheltered from all the world’s evils by the capital’s high walls and Dreamweaver’s watchful eye. He spent his youth lazing under a warm autumn sun and exploring the territory's expansive countryside with his father.

All the while, Abaddon raised him on stories of his namesake, Shard the Radiant. He was beautiful, he was kind, he was loving, and loyal, and always did what was right.

It wasn’t any wonder, then, that Shard Junior viewed the Radiant as his role model. Witnessing firsthand the love Abaddon held for him, Junior could not help but think that the Radiant had been taken from this world too soon. He longed to meet him. If he could meet him just once, tell him how much Abaddon adored and pined for him, maybe…

So he grew into a drake of longing, who desired what he could not have.

Fooled by the Water seer Opal, the twin Shards delved deeper into the mysteries surrounding exaltation and, in secret, sought a way to return their father from exaltation. Shard Junior, blinded by his desperation to both please Abaddon and sate his own curiosity, aided them in their attempts. He provided textual research from Feldspar’s extensive archives, and, unbeknownst to him, his powerful magic scrambled Priyanka’s Sight, preventing her from uncovering their plan and intervening.

Though the role he played was minor, the guilt he felt when the plan inevitably backfired, killing Horizon and threatening Shard the Radiant’s life, was greater than anyone’s—made even more so when the Arcanist did not take him as he had Fragment and Sliver. He was the lone survivor of a cataclysm of his own design.

His father forgave him, but as Lutia activated the Chalcedony Seat and Shard Clan’s remnants fled her wrath, Shard Junior vowed he would never forgive himself. He would carry the weight of what he had done to his grave, a potent reminder of what Arcanite curiosity had earned him.

Initially, Junior hid himself away from the world, fearing the rejection of those he had once called his family. Lutia, his beloved auntie, would surely never forgive him—and, deep down, he felt he never wanted her to, for that was a blessing he did not deserve. Telos had lost her husband, Zo his father, and the clan many lives more during the exodus. He could not bear to face them.

Even so, he could not bear to deny them the closure he could provide them either, and so he confronted what he had done and apologized to each of them in turn.

All but Lutia.

It wasn't until many eons later, after recovering Fragment's ring from the Chosen Renat, that he gathered the courage necessary to speak with her face-to-face. Lutia jumped to defend him against Renat's harsh condemnation, and he realized then that she must still care for him. Timidly, he pulled her aside and humbly requested her forgiveness.

He remains wary in her presence, perhaps too stiff for her liking, but having lost her once, his only wish is that he never do so again.

Now, he is happy. His family is whole—more so than ever with the addition of Jorah, the young Godsent he and Zo raised as their own. He is engaged to his beloved, both Feldspar and Aphaster are thriving, and he is at peace for the first time in an age.

...Except, it's never quite so simple, is it?

Almost as soon as Clan Feldspar had escaped the time loop that had held them captive for four long phases, Junior received a Call. Calls are believed to be Sornieth itself reaching out to those of great skill for aid; one does not simply refuse them, not even if their clan is in turmoil. Reluctantly, Junior traveled to the Starfall Isles, up the steps to the Observatory, and before his Patron could warn him, he had been taken by the False Prophet. From then on, he was the False Prophet's unwilling puppet.

The False Prophet returned to the Sunbeam Ruins and used Junior to slip into Clan Aphaster undetected. His plan was not quite as air-tight as he had believed, however, as he was swiftly spotted by Jorah, who knew at once that his father was not in control of his own body. While he rallied the troops, the False Prophet continued on toward the Seat, only to again fall just short of success. Now it was Atsushi who blocked his path, and the necromancer had seen his fair share of possessions. He managed to knock Junior unconscious, but not before the False Prophet had cast a nasty bit of magic on Feldspar Proper.

With the False Prophet's connection to him now severed, if only temporarily, Junior slept as his son and clanmates carried him across Sornieth to the Starfall Isles. There, with the Arcanist's help, they purged the False Prophet from him, and the raging god was reborn into the body of a tiny Fae. This child would become Sirius, Junior and Zo's second child and perhaps the most peculiar dragon in all of Clan Feldspar.
