Echantress held up the cape. No runs or rips, and it shimmered with magical infusion. “Satisfied?” Cruor asked for his cape to glow if it came into contact with certain pathogens. Cruor squinted at the cape, then touched it. “Does it work?” Echantress flattened some of her fins and snapped her tail. “Lying to customers is very bad for business. Of course, it works. Take your cloak, Cruor, and next time be a little less rude.” “Sorry.” Cruor dashed away. Enchantress couldn’t be moved to care if he was upset or not. She felt she’d been enchanting day in and day out lately. She took a deep, calming breath and looked at the stack of other items and weapons the Chase left for her to enchant for them. She’d never had so much business. Nearby, on his own perch studying a tiny reference on alchemical reduction, Warlock chuckled. “Won’t he be upset when he finds his new cape won’t cure the common cold.” Enchantress sighed and looked at Warlock. “I know we agreed that this would be best. This is a grand opportunity to travel and learn.” She paused. Warlock’s concerned fin wave prodded her to continue her thoughts. “But it’s so demanding. I miss our home, and working at my own pace.” “Ah, dear, it will take some getting used to.” Warlock gave a sympathetic and concerned flap of his crest. He fluttered next to her and touched his nose to the glittering Runes under her eye. Enchantress felt their magic mingle for just a moment when he did, as Infused Arcane dragons. When he saw his words didn’t comfort her, he took her claw in his and smiled. “What do you say we watch the stars together tonight, just you and me?” |

Enchantress has the fortune of not being sure where to trace her lineage, so she makes it up as she goes. She knows she was born in Arcane territory to a Wind dragon and a Shadow dragon, but has no idea where to find herself in that knowledge, so at some point she simply stopped trying. She met Warlock when she was still quite young and, though she usually tries to avoid cliches, she can’t think of any other way to explain their union except that they fell in love at first sight. As a young dragon, Enchantress was tutored in the magic of enchantment. She soon had an entire wardrobe for herself and Warlock imbued with enchantments to keep them safe or to enhance their abilities. Enchantress’s winged tiara, for example, gives her the ability to see the magic streams crossing Sornieth’s sky. Her favorite enchantment is on Warlock’s scales themselves, turning some pink or violet and effervescent with magical Luck. Over time, dragons came to her with requests for enchantment. She does what she can, but not all orders can be filled at her current skill level. She always has more to learn. Even though Enchantress is confident in her abilities and capable of independence, she has neither need nor desire. Rather, she would follow Warlock anywhere, since he is much more ambitious. She admits she doesn’t have many friends, mostly keeping company with Warlock. He’s genuinely attentive to her, and worries over her happiness. She thinks he has no reason to be concerned, since she’s sure she could make friends if she really wanted them. Enchantress is proud to be an Arcane dragon. They live and breathe enchantment, stars, discovery--magic. Though Enchantress was born with her magical markings, she proves herself worthy of them every day by making sure that if there is any advantage to be had for the Tempest Chase by way of enchantment, she will do it. She keeps an eye on Warlock’s business as well, especially his enthusiastic apprentice. She is a bit more heavy-handed than he is, but she doesn’t mind. She’s not usually out to make friends. |
