"Hello, hello! Welcome to Douglas's Dandy Stall. How can I help you, sir?"
"Ah, I'm looking to sell." The dragon put a black box on the table and opened it, and inside were many, many blue gems. Douglas's trading stall had a very good reputation. A reputation it didn't deserve. He tricked customers into buying cheap, common items. Some if these customers realised eventually but their bad reviews were drowned in all the good reviews. Many of these reviews were by fellow clan members.
"...Sir, do you know what these are?" Douglas asked, inspecting a gem between his clawtips then back at the dragon.
"Yes, yes I do. It's blue quartz. I've got too much of it. How much would it sell for?" Did he really not know that these were not blue quartz, but gems?
"Ah I see... Well, I am sad to tell you that unfortunately blue quartz is not worth a lot. However," Douglas reached for a pot on his shelf, "I would be glad to trade this fine artisan pot for you ge--I mean quartz."
"Hmm... But I've already got enough pots."
"Oh but you see, this pot is one of a kind. There is no pot the same. This is such a good deal for such a small price!" he lied. "And because I feel generous today," Douglas reaches for a similar looking piece of pottery, "I will also give you this beautiful matching vase. What do you say?"
"Hmm," the customer scratches him chin. "I do like vases."
"So do we have ourselves a deal, sir?"
He paused for a moment and then said, "Yes, thank you."

They shook claws and swapped goods. The dragon went home with less money and with two new additions to his hoard.

Douglas felt the gems in his claws and grinned.
