Calda
The Alchemist
Studies the science and art of creation and destruction Born on October 31st, 2016 The egg was an accident. Her adopted parents - the mates Ezra, Foxglove and Apocalyptic - were all practicing their alchemy at Baldwin’s cauldron. On their return one day, they spilled their materials, which combined in a puff of candy-scented smoke and a bubbling pile of goo gathering on the ground. The three alchemists watched with interest as two eggs emerged from the goo, gleaming in the mid-day sun. The eggs hatched before their eyes, into two mewling Bogsneaks, the same strange breed as Baldwin. “Well, would you look at that,” Foxglove chirped. The two hatchlings were opposites, even as they were twins. The female was aligned with Nature; the male, Plague. At first, they looked startlingly different - but upon closer inspection, both hatchlings had cantaloupe tertiaries. Apocalyptic picked up the Plague hatchling, cooing in delight. “I would be happy to take then home with me,” she offered. |

Foxglove shook her head, as Ezra spoke up. “We would like to help raise these children, as well, Apoc. You can’t carry this all on your shoulders.” |

“They are hatchlings to all three of us, after all,” Ezra agreed. “Oh, yes,” Apoc said with a smile. “How about one stays with the Clarus Clan, and the other will come to the City with me? We will visit often for play-dates.” “I am sure the darlings will love that,” Foxglove purred. And so that was how Calda joined the Clarus Clan. At first, she was nicknamed Bubbles; the Clan was unsure of how to name her, despite their warm welcome. Finally, the Clan’s scholars learned of a nebula called Calda, known as the Bubble Nebula - it was a perfect name for her. The Clan celebrated her naming day. Likewise, her brother was called Drools for some time, before being named Drollo. After both were named, the two allied groups joined together to celebrate the hatchlings. As Calda grew, she quickly took after all three of her parents. The trips to Baldwin’s brew for alchemy lessons were her favourite part of the season. It was a chance to see her brother, and to play around with the different goos, slimes, mucks… When with her brother, the goofball side of her emerges predominantly. She and him love to explore, discover new things, play tricks on others, and especially they love to try and swap places whenever they can, taking the other’s place in the Clan or the City. It never fools anyone - though they are twins, there are clear differences between the two. |

She also loves to play in the streams of the Gladeveins, and when she can, she soaks up the sun at the top of the cliffs overlooking the western gulf. Through all of her playfulness, she tries to ignore those who look down on her. Those who deem her breed as unnatural, a blight on the land, a curse from the deities. Those who would kill her if they could - if her parents did not urge her Clan to protect her - if her mother did not coerce the City Councilors to grant her safe passage from the Viridian Labyrinth, to Dragonhome and back. Outside of specified territories, there is no safety guaranteed for Calda. But she hopes that her sunny disposition and friendly nature will save her from any danger, if she ever stumbles upon it. |
