Reanimated.
_____Reanimated is vengeful, to say the very least. He has risen a clan of loyal worshippers about himself in order to gain their power. Why, you may ask? Simple. Reanimated has a plan to slaughter the deities.
_____Reanimated was created in the third age, when the Arcanist did battle with the Shade at the Pillar of the World. Their battle magics were so powerful that it seeped into the earth beneath them and combined to create a small but immortal life. This life was Reanimated, though I have learned that was not what he called himself at the time. Back then he referred to himself as Soulpeace.
_____All Soulpeace knew in his early life was the ragged landscape around him, the scars on the land of a fight long past. He didn’t know why he was created. He didn’t know how he was created, for that matter. But he did enjoy his life, nonetheless. He enjoyed every step he took, every breath he took in. That is, until the Earthshaker found him.
_____Earthshaker sensed Shade magic beneath his Pillar, and searched endlessly for it until he stumbled upon it in the form of Soulpeace. Earthshaker didn’t care who Soulpeace was. Earthshaker only cared about what he was. Soulpeace was ripped from his corporeal body without a second thought.
_____He awoke in a land of blue mist and empty air. Soulpeace called out for help. Only his echoes replied. He looked down at his talons and saw only faint outlines, with his spirit swirling angrily beneath his incorporeal skin.
Where was he?
_____For millennia Soulpeace suffered in this silent prison, clawing at fabric walls that wouldn’t tear. He tried desperately to find the power to escape, but it always floated just out of his grasp. Eventually he abandoned the hope of freedom, resigning himself to infinity in isolation. Until they showed up.
_____Two little tundras, with skin like moonlight and eyes like wolves. They could see him. They could speak to him. And speak they did. The two explained their conquest for power, and the female, Serenity, offered him a way out of his prison. They’d find Soulpeace a vessel in the corporeal realm, and when he was strong enough to come back in full, Serenity and her mate, Augustine, would be made gods. Glowing with hope, he sent them away to do his bidding.
_____Serenity and Augustine searched for many years before they found the perfect vessel in the perfect place. It was a pearlcatcher, supposedly killed by some of the Icewarden’s exalted for escaping the Fortress of Ends. The body was on a secluded island just south of the Twisting Crescendo, with enough dragons to easily begin spreading his influence, but isolated enough to escape the deities’ scrutiny. Upon speaking with the deceased dragon’s loved ones, it was agreed that Serenity and Augustine would “revive” the pearlcatcher, who was apparently named Sunstone. Soulpeace reached out to the dragon’s body and filled it with his will as Serenity and Augustine performed a mock ritual to bring Sunstone back to life.
_____Sunstone arose and stretched out his wings. Soulpeace roared in triumph as his incorporeal prison crumbled around him.
_____Half the battle was over. From here it was a matter of gaining followers. Soulpeace seized control of Sunstone’s body and took his mind as his own. He opened his mouth and spoke with Sunstone’s borrowed voice.
_____“Lumen. Moonwash.” He boomed. Sunstone’s loved ones fell to their knees, awestruck. “Listen well to me. The gods you trust are not all that they seem. They are savages, intent on destroying you to pleasure themselves. Just see how they slaughtered the one you love. You must cast away your trust in them.”
_____“You are not Sunstone?” Lumen asked. Soulpeace shook Sunstone’s head. “He may not be speaking to you now, but he is here. When I am done speaking with you, I will let him return to this body.” Lumen shivered visibly. “Who are you then, who takes my husband’s body and uses him to speak with us?”
_____Soulpeace was silent for a moment. He felt the weight of his torment upon him, and in a moment, realized he was no longer one with his name. His soul was no longer at rest. His blood boiled to punish those who wronged him, and he ought to have a name that reflected that passion.
_____“I am Reanimated.” He said. “I am the true ruler of this land. Follow me, and I will save you all.”
_____Sunstone and Moonwash bowed at his feet.
_____“I will be their end.”
