Some dragons are just born with GLITTER in their veins....

━━━━━━━━━━━━ b i o ━━━━━━━━━━━━

Sylvari is the prettiest dragon in the lair. His previous colour was one of bold blue, pink and what he liked to call “delicate wisps of sunlight gracing his fur”. Now, he literally sparkles with opalescence. Every different angle brings about another beautiful sheen of colour against his hide, and in the sunlight – he’s celestial. It took some tricky magic from an old friend to make the change, and Berry wasn’t too sure of it himself, but his new body felt wonderful and young. It hadn’t taken long to get used to the feeling of too-long legs, but here he was again. He was shorter, and his wingspan was smaller, yes, but Sahara had promised him he was still growing. At least the middle aged paunch was gone.
Berry still loved him, and he loved Berry. The two had fallen in love years ago, and even now Berry loved the sheen of Sylvari’s beautiful hide. His attitude had seemed to calm down from when he was once an unruly teenager, speaking with pride and eloquence. Finding a niche in his craft had taken the obsession off himself and onto his customers as well, and his impact on the Tribe had turned it from a mob of dragons to a clan worthy of the sapling home Glademother had bestowed upon them. Despite his new, young body, he was welcome at the meetings of the elders, and often spoke about the marketplace’s needs. Berry had watched his vapid boyfriend grow from a stylist of few dragons to a dragon whose name was known across Sornieth for his art. He wasn’t only a stylist anymore. As the marketstalls grew, Sylvari had taken over and, with the help of Wieska, created the Marketplace. Now the area had become one of the main hubs for Nature clans who couldn’t travel long distances, as well as some of the worldlier marketeers and merchants. Dancers performed and music played at Sylvari’s Marketplace. Trades of fruits and silks were made, services sold, hatchlings ran through the crowds and dipped their paws in others’ bags, and in the centre, stood Sylvari’s hut. The smell of fresh daisies floated from the hut as dragons queued in the sun, delicately fanning their faces as they waited for their appointment with Sylvari and his scissors. Berry still stood in the shadows, and kept an eye on the proceedings, but he couldn’t help to admit that his boy now shone like a jewel. His goal, the white silks resting on him, glittered as they fluttered in the breeze.
Berry couldn’t be prouder.
Sylvari's job ranges from whatever his flippant mind decides on that day. Mostly he's a stylist, who does things like fur trimming, feather clipping, and horn polishing, however he is also dabbling into tattooing and dying. He is also the fashion expert, with dragons coming to him for apparel decisions. His favourite job is of course the gossip collector, no tasty bit of gossip misses Sylvari's ears, from within the clan and without. Berry, Sylvari’s boyfriend, often helps with the collection of information, whispering tasty tidbits of scandals and uprisings from his job as a scout. Sylvari soaks it all in and uses it as his own form of currency.

Old Body: Sovari
Sovari was gifted to this unruly lair long ago. At first, he was disgusted, and requested solemnly to go back, but his parents refused. Only recently has he forgiven his parents, when he heard that they had been kicked out of his birth-lair. So he was sent to play with the other babies, which he most certainly did not! The other dragons wanted to wrestle in the mud and play with icky insects, and all Sovari wanted to do was brush his delicate fur and maintain his claws. Not a single one was chipped from the long travels here, and he planned to keep them that way. But! A pretty red skydancer came up to him, crunching on something obviously disgusting. He was a young one, and uncouth, but his big green eyes wouldn't stop gazing at Sovari. At first it was unsettling, oh, very, but when he offered a slightly squished strawberry, Sovari couldn't help himself. He was hungry, and the selection of foods here made him sick. As thanks, the little red skydancer got the nickname Berry. It stuck, even the adults called him that. Berry never left his side from that moment on! Sovari learnt through the adults of Berry's dark past. The poor sap had been born into the most scandalous event in this clans history! A Clan Leader and a jealous twit, who wanted the throne, the mother of Berry. Due to this the little dancer was the heir! And of course the heir had chosen the right dragon to follow. Of course Berry knew pure-blood royalty when he saw it.
Berry: ""Don't tell him, but his mother's father is a Wildclaw, and his father's father is a Pearlcatcher. I'm purer-blooded than he is.""

And then! To see Berry's mother attempt regicide, oh, Sovari saw Berry's hopes fall even further. Dragons trying to curry favour with Berry quickly dusted themselves off the OBVIOUSLY tainted blood. But Sovari stuck with him, because he could see the dancer was absolutely normal, and needed a strong, beautiful dancer too look up to... like him! Also Berry was kinda hot. Soon he and Berry were truly alone, and Sovari saw his chance. Berry wasn’t his normal self anymore. He spent too much time sleeping and sulking, and not dedicating his every minute to him. Sovari knew something was wrong. His father, Modremoth, had been incredibly pushy lately – not that Sovari ever listens to him of course. It’s just that Berry had been listening. And so Sovari took the time to work on Berry, get him to see the light - which of course, was him. It took a while, and many many spiders (good Glademother, the icky spiders! Why did they have to be Berry’s favourite?). Sovari knew that Berry would do his ultimate best to pass on at least his father's side, but Sovari soon convinced him that he was the only partner for the disgraced dragon. No other female was adequate enough. No other female could replace Sovari’s glowing beauty!

And so, the fabulous Sovari took the dragon as his mate, with no arguments from any other clan member - well, except for the shock of Berry's father, the squealing outrage of Berry's mother, the surprise of the Queen, Pyre, bless her radiant fierceness, and the distrust of all the females. Sovari knew his choice would affect the females greatly. Oh how, they swooned over his every step

Berry: ""They never did.""
and begged him to choose another mate

Berry: ""One lady asked him to breed with her. One. But the way he crowed about it, it could have been a thousand.""

But alas! He was taken! By the dashingly handsome Berry, heir-no-longer of the throne! Even though Berry had a son or daughter or something. Oh well. He was in someone elses' lair, where Sovari couldn't be bothered with his tattiness. Sovari wasn’t interested. Or upset. Berry could go do what he wants, Sovari doesn’t mind! Honest!
Berry: You're his stepfather.
Oh, Yuki! Yuki, the darling skydancer dragon thing, yes! Oh, Sovari loved the little tyke dearly, even if he looked like an ugly version of his father. Yes, the hideous thing would always hold a (cobwebby, unused) place in his heart, yes!

Back to himself, Sovari is the prettiest in the lair, prettier than any girls. My, he may just be the prettiest in the world! Berry is of course, not heavy on the eyes at all, but he himself is like a dessert...
(Berry: ""Please be quiet."")

But that is of course why he tries his hardest to make the others pretty like him! So they can understand what beauty feels like, even if for them it's only temporary- except if it's his BFF Lyre! That girl knows what beauty looks like. She is the local dyer, and her colours are just riveting! Sovari hopes one day she will graduate to dying dragons instead of her silks, because he believes he would look stunning in rainbow.[/font]

New Body: Sylvari

""It is a little-known fact, but Spirals are capable of shedding their skins... The art of Rebirth.""

It was a scribbled piece of writing on a ripped piece of paper, but Berry had found it, and Berry had promised a scroll to match it. It wasn't easy, the original owner of the scroll had left rather rapidly, taking the remainder of the scroll with him. Modremoth, Berry's father, had sent him on the mission to track down this life-changing magic- and all Sovari wanted was to be young again.
Was it selfish?
Possibly.
But as he stood in front of his mirror, poking at his droopy stomach, and pulling his face in various directions, the wrinkles remained. He was growing old. His once bright plumage had faded, and a bald spot was growing where his old cabbie had sat all these years. He was old. He had done many things in this life, as well. He had saved his boyfriend from the clutches of his own mind, started a small shop, created a marketplace empire - it was his name the fashion designers bragged, his name that sold the gourmet items that passed through his marketplace. He was a king, a tycoon, but his money didn't stop the wrinkles.

Opening the scrap and reading the smeared words, Sovari paused and repeated them, hoping to incite some sort of clue as to where the rest of the scroll lay.
The ability to be reborn into a younger body...
He would do whatever it takes to be young again.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Berry shrunk down onto his haunches, stalking the dragon in front of him. His travels hadn't taken him far - the nature clan stood closer to the Tribe since they had moved - and wouldn't his old friend be surprised. Cynfor. The dragon had left quickly, and it wasn't long before Berry had caught wind of what he'd done. Now his pair beau was slipping into depression, and Berry needed a word with his friend.
Stepping out of the trees, it took a gentle cough to make the spiral turn around. His patterns were different, a deep blue had melted into a soft purple dapple. His eyes, too, were no longer the vivid green of the Labyrinth. Berry watched the dark purple of his eyes widen at the sight of him, before he flew towards him.
""Berry, my buddy my pal! Oh it has been a lifetime and a half, my friend! How is the lovely lady? The kids? Does anyone still remember me?""
""Cynfor? Do you still go by that name? It's funny you say a lifetime-""
""I know, terrible pun on my behalf - I bet you got my letter?""
""Hah, yes. You've sent Modremoth in a tizzy trying to get answers. You have a habit of not finishing your sentences when writing letters.""
""I haven't improved on that, I'm afraid. You never were the type to sit and chat though. What brings you here? You after Vortex?""
""No I'm here for you."" The cordial expression seemed to melt from Berry's face. Taking his helmet off, Cynfor saw the haggard expression of a tired old man. The dragon wasn't as young as he used to be. His fur still shone bright and unpatterned, a rarity in the Tribe nowadays. But his face reflected the life he'd lived as a scout.
""Please, Cynfor, I'm begging you. Sovari has fallen.. ill. His body is failing him, and I can't watch him waste away. His bones creak and ache in the mornings, and his fur is slowly falling out. He's growing old, and I don't think he could live like he has anymore. Do you remember the spell? The scroll? Anything?"" Grabbing him by the shoulders, Berry's face slowly fell when his words fell on a blank face.
""I... I don't know what you're talking about.""
Gripping him so hard his nails were digging into the spiral's shoulder, Berry shook him till he rattled. ""You were just joking about it with me, Cynfor! Don't go stoney-faced on me! Tell me how to do it!"" Tears were welling up and falling down his cheeks, as Berry begged. Cynfor stood there, no expression on his face. Letting go, Berry wiped away his tears as Cynfor watched a butterfly weave its way through the trees. A dumb smile on his face, Cynfor watched it float away before turning his attention on Berry. Eyes widening, he flew towards Berry, crying, ""Berry, my buddy my pal!""
Berry just stared, as Cynfor rattled on. Finally holding a paw to Cynfor's mouth, he asked quietly.
""Do you have a piece of paper for me to write on, friend?""
Cynfor was only too pleased to deliver, fishing a terribly old scrap of familiar paper. An idea began to form in Berry's head.
""Another scrap, please, this one is far too small.""
""Another by any chance, Cynfor?""
""You know what, cyn, I'll trade you. Your bag full of paper, for my bag full of inks and rubbings. What do you say?""
It didn't take long to convince the spiral at least.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

He upended the bag and shook it. Scraps flew out and spiraled in the dusty air. Shrieking, Simbi and Anaisa scrambled to catch the shreds of paper. They knew, they'd known ever since Cynfor had left Simbi in her old Library. In the new one, the place was larger and less mildewy, but Simbi was still stuck trying to decipher her old notes. Berry noticed the massive ink stain on them before she hid it behind her back. She had gotten so close to cracking what notes she had from Cynfor, before an accident had forced her to abandon her project. But now, the clue was potentially sitting in amongst the lint balls and crumpled up pieces of paper. Nodding at the girls, Berry placed some coins on the pile to hold it down before bidding his return. Anaisa nodded and farewelled him, before returning to the pile. Simbi had already gotten stuck into it, carefully separating the gems of writing from the duds. Anaisa started her own pile. Shopping receipts, scribbles, old adages about talonok pottery, and the like, went into a neat pile, ready to be categorised later. Scraps of the old scroll were a lot rarer in the pile, but they were there. Berry might have found the missing piece in the jigsaw puzzle as convoluted as a spiral knot.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

A little fae flew around the marketplace, searching for three dragons in particular. A blue and pink skydancer, a massive green imperial, and her grandfather. The first one was easy, the second one a test, but the third one was nigh impossible. Diving through dragon legs, twisting around streamers and strings, and catching hot drafts up into the tops of the trees, it took until her wings were almost falling off before she found him. Right at the very top, gazing off in the Dragonhome direction, stood Berry.

""Ojisan, they've sent for you! They've done it! Seb and Sovari are waiting for you now!""
There was no response bar the sudden dive towards the ground. Rae would dare try any aerial tricks of the sort-her wings would surely snap if she tried. But try she did, as she floated back down to the library.

Landing on one of the windows looking in, she had an aerial view of the proceedings. There her grandfather stood next to his partner. He was pretty, that was for sure. But his body drooped and his wings nearly brushed the dirt. An imperial curled around the aisles, peering over at a scroll in terrible condition. The scroll was missing in lots of places, and burnt holes scattered the scroll. But next to it, in Simbi's beautiful loopy writing, was what appeared, even at this height, to be a magic scroll.
It was beautiful, really. With gentle kisses and touches, the two skydancers coiled around each other with obvious love. Seb's baritone voice began to rumble through the library, pitching and falling in time with the loopy writing. Rae fluttered down onto one of the aisles for a better view. Anaisa, the guardian, backed away slowly, in an attempt to avoid the preceedings. Soon the two skydancers were dancing, and the attention was on Sovari. Simbi's high voice joined in with Seb's, creating a beautiful but empty duet. Rae didn't know the words being sung, but she could pick up where the holes were. Every now and then, a wrong word would fall through, dashing the meagre attempts at magic. They were trying, but the scroll obviously wasn't working. Rae sighed and leaned against the books piled next to her. In the corner of her eye she noticed another dragon in the library. A nocturne, with chains on her feet and a hood over her face, was listening intently. The last words of the song wavered and finished awkwardly. Simbi stopped, and furrowed her brow. She knew something was wrong. Seb whispered to her, pointing out words that were mistranslated. Berry stopped and held Sovari. He knew it hadn't worked. Sovari had twigged on by then, and was ready to give up.
The rattle of chains caught Rae's attention again. The nocturne had stopped writing whatever she had been focused on, and was holding it out to Rae. Her deep earthen eyes almost sucked Rae in. She knew this dragon. Rat. Beckoning to her, Rat waved the paper out to her, and whispered hurriedly,
""Take this to them, and sing. They're singing an old snapper song, and the words are all wrong! Trust me, give this to them, and sing it with them. I'll start, join in on me.""
Taking the paper from her, Rae held it close as the nocturne sat and waited.

One beat, two beats, and she was over the aisle. Landing on the table awkwardly, pens and quills went flying and her wings slapped at the table. Simbi squealed and rushed to protect the fragile scroll, but Rae pushed the new piece of paper in her face.
""Try this!""
As Simbi took it, Rae bounced onto her shoulder where she peered over at the page. the words still seemed foreign, but she tried. As she promised, a beautiful melody started, muffled by the bookshelves. Perfect orchestral pitch, just like a nocturne. Rae chimed in, her voice terrible, really, but she tried. Focusing on the words, she chanted, rolling the words around in her mouth and focusing on her clarity. Simbi and Seb quickly joined in when they realised what she was doing, and soon Sovari was dancing... by himself. Berry had disappeared, yet again. Now was not the time to wonder what was going on though. The words were beginning to get hard, and it was all Rae could manage to not trip over them, lest she ruin the entire thing.

The song was beautiful, she had to admit, but the words felt heavy, like it was draining her energy just to read them. She felt like she was travelling an ancient migration, growing older with the song.
The crescendo was about to hit. Sovari was airborne, spinning gracefully through the air. The words were coming faster than Rae could keep up, but she tried. The words had turned almost ugly, and it took effort to spit them out. They tasted like poison in her mouth, and Rae hated it. Seb was starting to drown her out, and she could feel his almost toxic breath spilling over her. Simbi was sweating, and Rae saw beads run down her fur. The words was falling over themselves now, and she couldnt stop, no matter how she hated it.
Things all happened at once. The song stopped, suddenly. Sovari stopped, and fell to the ground, hard. Berry burst through the door, holding a crystallised egg in his hands. Simbi gasped and dropped the paper, and everything went silent. Ears ringing, Rae watched her grandfather slide over to his still boyfriend, cupping his head in his hands. Sovari wasn't moving, and the crack on the ground must have been his head. Rae covered her mouth, tears welling up. Everything had been going so well, but no one had expected Sovari to fall.

And yet he lay still.

Holding the egg under Sovari's head, Berry shielded them with his wings, but Rae still saw. The slow drip of blood on the ice egg. The staining of blood as it ran along the crevices. The hints of pink in its wake.
Her fins drooped, and her head felt heavy. all she wanted to do was sleep. Curling over, she slid off Simbi's shoulder and floated to the ground, passed out.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The scroll had been locked up in one of the vaults under the Tree. The whole thing had rattled Simbi to the core, and her dabbling in the dark songs was done. Rat had been sworn to silence, and Seb had retreated back to his forest. Berry had sat for weeks on end, guarding his egg until it finally hatched. No one was allowed in the hatchery until Berry had left, obviously with his new progeny. The whole Tribe had been in the most colourful of rumours about the new dragon, with only the wildest of rumours scratching the surface of what they'd just done. Rae had only woken up after the Tribe had calmed down, and the new dragon had made his appearance. She had missed the initial reveal, to her dismay, but her reaction to meeting him was still the same. He was beautiful, as pink as the blood on his egg. He was young, terribly young, but held himself like an adult. His personality wasn't completely Sovari's but Sovari was there. He had chosen a new name, an eloquent, Elven version of his old name. Sylvari. It matched him. He lay, snuggled up against Berry, in clear familiarity of his boyfriend, but greeted Rae when she came close, something he hardly ever did.
Sovari was gone.
Sylvari had taken his place.
And only time would tell how Sylvari would fill Sovari's old place.
Now was not the time for grieving though.
