Random Stories

Starting from the post after this one, I will be posting stories -- from blurbs and prompts -- to full blown stories and poems -- about my dragons. If I've roleplayed with you and your dragon before, I might add a little something here, as well (with your permission and knowledge, of course).

This thread will mostly be for my entertainment, but if you want to provide constructive criticisms and critiques or just review my work in general then feel free to PM me and include the title of the story you're reviewing. I will put a title on all my posts for better tracking. I will most likely use one of the reserved posts above for the reviews to keep this thread organized.

Well, that's it for the introduction of this section! ^-^

Have a lovely day!

Sorrell hummed to himself as he went through his collection of priceless gems and elements.

The chimes on his door twinkled serenely signaling someone had entered his shop. Red eyes trailed over to his visitor, his fanged smile in place, "Well, well. What brings you to my humble establishment, handsome?"

Fiery eyes flinched, his mouth curling up in disgust, "Ugh. Spare me your flirtatious antics, they are a mockery in my presence."

The coatl chuckled good-naturedly, "You're no fun, Severin."

Ignoring him, the imperial strode over to the counter and placed a clump of gold on it without a word.

The coatl tilted his head in question, "Ok... hm, you know, I can't understand if you don't clarify what it is you want from me. I'm not a mind-reader-"

"Buttons."

Taken aback by the ambiguity, Sorrell just blinked once. Twice.

"Buttons?.... Of gold?"

Severin nodded stiffly.

Stifling a laugh at his clan mate's obvious plight, the fashion expert cleared his throat, "And who, may I ask, is the recipient of such a gesture?"

The imperial stared down at the coatl with a glare.

Not really bothered, Sorrell sighed and studied his claws nonchalantly, "If you want me to make this absurdly gaudy gold into some buttons, I need to know who they are for."

When there wasn't a reply, the coatl continued, slightly exasperated at this point, "Severin, my boy, I cannot work my magic for someone I don't know. Even if you look at me like that- Oh!"

Sorrell grinned mischievously, "Oh, I see now. You would like some buttons for the dear Lady Kassandra, don't you?" The coatl laughed outright, "Oh dear! Poor, poor Severin. You should know better! Kassandra will never be impressed by such extravagance! Besides," he said, pushing the clump of gold to the side with distaste, "gold is so overrated."

There was a huff. Pinning his customer with a skeptical look, Sorrell crossed his forearms, "Also, have you ever seen Kassandra wearing anything gold?"

The coatl chuckled again as his customer's brows furrowed in deep thought.

"Hm, well while you mull over things, might I go on by saying that buttons are a little... strange to be a courting gift?"

At this, Severin growled out a warning, "Watch your tongue, appraiser. I did not come here for your opinion, just your skills. If you cannot provide me with the service I require, I will seek someone else."

With a roll of his blood-red eyes, Sorrell sighed in exasperation, "I told you. I can't make something without the proper details. What is it with you and your gold anyway? It's so impersonal and highly uncharacteristic. You obviously like her, but you know nothing about her."

"I'm warning you," Severin snarled.

"Or what?" Challenged the appraiser.

---

The argument continued as the voices began to rise. Outside the shop, Kassandra stopped in her tracks. Glancing at the unusually noisy establishment, the pretty female raised an eyebrow when she heard Severin's voice arguing with Sorrell.

"What on earth could they be fighting about?"

When the debate continued, the lady sighed and shrugged her shoulders. It was none of her business.

With a shake of her head, she went on her way.

Barad looked at his handiwork with pride while his mate sat on his shoulder, her face tilted in confusion, "Barad... what's this?"

The tundra puffed his chest out, "They're the new curtains that Eldrid was selling! She said they bring good fortune and happiness! I took the liberty of hanging them in your lab, dear."

His grin was so big, Fiorin wondered if he'd ever be able to close his mouth again.

"I noticed you were a little stressed with that potion you were working on the other day, so I thought this would help cheer you up some!"

Red eyes switched from her mate to the monstrosities on her wall. She didn't know whether to hug him or curse him. The gesture was sweet, without a doubt, but... it looked so wrong.

Bright, yellow curtains with big, red polka dots now adorned her meticulously dark, cozy wall. Her cobwebs and spiders all shared her sentiment as they angrily clashed with the obnoxious material. She hated them, but the pleased look on Barad's hooded face was so happy. Plus, he had done all this for her sake.

With an inward sigh, Fiorin flitted in front of her mate's face and pecked his nose affectionately, "Thank you." His grin grew, if that was even possible as he nuzzled her, "My pleasure!"

The fae smiled. She should have known her mate would fall for that mirror's advertisements. Barad was surprisingly gullible. He'd believe anything you told him, the more absurd the claim, the more he'd be interested. Strange tundra. With one last defeated look at the eye-searing curtains, Fiorin made a mental note to sprinkle smelly fungi in Eldrid's backyard.

Meanwhile...

A brightly-colored mirror counted her wares when a chill ran up her spine.

Uh oh.

Prompt: A Bundle of Roses

Featuring the following:

*No Janan dragon as of yet, but she is an OC.*

Paragon smiled wistfully from the shadows as the door of the small cottage opened. She watched as a bubbly girl-child of sixteen summers stepped out of the house.

....

Janan sighed happily as she greeted the day with a vibrant grin. Today was a special day and she couldn't wait to start it. Just as she was about to take another step, she felt something at her feet. It was a bundle of roses. She carefully picked it up. Janan tilted her head in wonder before looking around, her violet eyes searching the empty field. Seeing no one, she looked back down at the flowers in her arms. Confusion and apprehension passed across her face before it was replaced by a radiant smile.

Near the base of the bouquet, there was an opal, her birthstone.

Filled with excitement and a new appreciation for the day, Janan skipped back into the house to show her parents her present.

....

"You do realize that they may force her to get rid of it, yes?"

Paragon closed her eyes in contentment before turning to the man who walked up beside her.

"I know," she said, not at all bothered by it, "Any good parent would doubt the gift of an anonymous sender, but it's a special occasion, Lu," he frowned at the nickname, but didn't interrupt, "and I wanted to be a part of it somehow."

Lucien glanced at the woman beside him with a bored expression. He had long given up trying to comprehend her actions long ago. Noting the satisfied smile on Paragon's lips, he inwardly sighed, deciding not to push the matter any further.

Paragon's eyes widened when she felt a large hand on her head. It was only for a moment though. Before she had time to fully register what happened, the gesture had ended and Lucien had started to walk back the way he came.

Instantly cheering up, Paragon gave the cottage one last glance, her heart warming when she noticed a vase of familiar roses on one of the window sills, before she jogged after her companion and taking his hand in her smaller one.

Happy Birthday.
