Maroon Tatters
|
Lorne typically breeds with Queen Valiant after the death of his first mate Warden. Their relationship is not currently monogamous, and their hatchlings are typically raised by Valiant’s brothers and sister in their kingdom. Instead of traditional family ties, Lorne follows his Charge, Radek, around, and cares for his daughter as though she were his own. |
Lorne's accepted the fact that Radek is his Charge, since, at least, he finds him more tolerable than Mere (mostly). Still, he keeps this information to himself. He considers his first duty to Mere and the Tundras, since they’re the ones that pay him the most. The Tempest Chase, though they are technically his employer, is more like a side-gig and a convenient source of sanity. There’s only so much a brute-force fighter can take of hanging around highly-intellectual Tundras. He’s made a decent life for himself there.
Fire lives right next to the Wind in Lorne’s bloodline. He longs to be practical and lives for protecting his friends and doing his job. Even though he most often works for the Tempest Chase as a monster hunter, he will at times escort important clients to and from the Chase to their clan, or protect travelers on long journeys through treacherous places. He is quite good at his job, too, though he somehow has time for such artistic and impractical hobbies as painting. Perhaps he gets that from the Wind side of the family...
Featuring:
Radek Age: 12 years old Scientist in the employ of Mere; manages to be generally nice anyway. |
Aquarius Age: 13 years old Windsinger priestess, grandmother of Lorne, helping him get settled. |
I'm too lazy to write an actual story so here, have a nice little bullet-pointed list of the most important parts of this story.
- Lorne is talking to his grandmother, Aquarius, about having just joined the Tempest Chase. He’s having a good time, excited to get started, and his first job is escorting some scientist Tundras on a job. He’s meeting them today.
- We also have to learn that Lorne’s especially looking forward to traveling with the Tempest Chase because he feels like he should have found his Charge by now. Aquarius assures him it’s fine. Of course, she’s a Pearlcatcher so she doesn’t know anything about it. Maybe he should talk to Lightning?
- Aquarius shows him around the Estate so we get a little acquainted with everyone who’s around now. So we’ve got Cruor; Celtine; Merle and Abbey; Jonathan and Nadia. Lightning, Hydra, and Soren are busy for the minute. And then, of course, the couple of Tundras hanging around waiting to meet their escort. Keep in mind, Radek is quite large for a Tundra. Like 1.5 times Mere's length. Either that or Mere is small for a Tundra. We only have the two here, so it doesn't really matter
- These are the guys. Mere is being his usual degrading self to Radek, and he’s dishing it back more or less. He doesn’t think as quick. Either way, Lorne is like, “Who are these idiots.” These are the idiots you’re escorting into dark caves.
- We set out the next morning to more general banter. You know, Mere accusing Radek of having descended from podids or whatever. “If I were married to you, I’d poison your coffee.” “And if I were married to you, I’d drink it.” Stuff like that. Gets a bit old.
- We make it back alive and Mere thinks this was a huge success! We’d like to hire this particular Guardian again, please. Very professional, with a modicum of intelligence. In fact, can we just keep you on retainer? Is that something the Tempest Chase does? (Cek, in the distance: WE DO NOW~)
- Meanwhile Lorne is quite distressed now that he’s away from those idiots. Because turns out one of those idiots is his Charge.
- Dang it.
