He decided at an early age that his life would be as splattered with blood as he was. The cleanliness and happy energy of the Lightning flight didn't appeal to him.

As a teen, he joined a roving pack of Mirror pirates, where he learned the ways of the world, the proper way to gut your prey, the intricacies of breeding, and everything that comes with straying off the beaten path. While there were some good times, flying under the stars slightly drunk on rum, he grew up roughly.

In one startling battle with another pack of Mirrors, he saw his best friend killed. Ever since then, he has not known how to love, and his biggest secret is that he desperately wants someone to show him.

Prior to joining a pirate ship, Aimatos had to admire the genuine genius of Spirals. When Spirals actually bothered to focus on inventing, the finished product was marvelous and a definite gain in the eyes of the world. But it was understandably hard to appreciate such weapons when they were firing upon him and his crewmates on the main deck of the ship.

The band of West Coasters that were living off the edge of the Twisting Crescendo didn't appreciate Aimatos' group showing up and demanding access to further waters. Unfortunately for those dragons, pirates weren't very courteous with the word 'no'.

But. Aimatos admitted that, maybe, just maybe, this time they had bitten off more they could chew. A few of the enemy dragons had left their ship and begun to attack from the air. Most of them were Skydancers, which meant–

"Duck!" Aimatos barely heard them in time. Immediately after he rolled out of the way, Aimatos felt a blast of magic whizz by his ear. Several of those dragons in the air were Skydancers, which meant magic. Magic isn’t the worst thing in the world. Much easier to deal with magic users when you're not on something that is highly flammable. The ignition made a sharp crack, but a fellow Mirror quickly put it out with their paws. He couldn't stop himself from wincing-- out of self-pity, that is; he'd be the one dealing with those burns later.

The Imperial slammed into him with the force of a boulder. It came suddenly, and all at once, and those massive claws centered right at Aimatos' skull to knock him out. A cheating *******, that Imperial was. Aimatos wished he had been bigger, stronger, something better enough to take such a punch.

At least it wasn't an Emperor, he thought to himself. The blood loss took him out, and Aimatos... doesn't remember much from what happened after.

The memories. Mostly of feeling immeasurably dizzy. Otherwise, what’s left is all in pieces, like, remembering his Captain practically flying out of a room to join the fight. A few of his other pirates going onto the enemy ship. The longer he had been out, the fuzzier the memories are, but there is an unusual gaping hole between the sight of absconding dragons to night.

Once twilight had arrived, the temperature steadily dropped. Aimatos heard unsteady breathing and moans of pain, and if he wasn't in between states of wakefulness he might have been grateful to know that someone else survived.

The ship continued to sail with the wind, and the air had the thought to lead him and his remaining crewmates astray. Aimatos felt himself drift in and out of consciousness at sensations; the prickling cold, the uneven rocking of the ship, the beat of someone's wings as they took off. At some point, he was lifted from the floor, and Aimatos couldn't find the energy to ask who this dragon was, where they were going. In the moments his – savior? – blurred out in his vision, they looked like someone Aimatos had nearly forgotten; another Mirror on that pirate ship who had died months ago. Trees were above him, and the savior-old friend-dragon seemed to be following a path of flowers.

His mind fell back into the recesses of sleep as he processed himself sliding onto the grass. Had he stayed awake for a moment, he would have looked up to see an unfamiliar Guardian staring at him quizzically.

he washed up at the clan's doorstep, he was the only one alive?
