Crucis has shared very little of his long, convoluted history with his peers. Suffice it to say, he grew up in an exceedingly stereotypically Arcane environment, and it fostered within him the insatiable curiosity that has made him so very troublesome.

When asked, he says, simply, "It wasn't a bad upbringing, but it was one fraught with illegality." It is assumed that his privacy regarding the matter stems from a desire to protect his kin from any retribution their enemies or those wronged by their academic pursuits might seek to exact upon them.

Upon his arrival in Feldspar territory, Xerxes was immediately placed under Isaiah's care. Despite Isaiah's skill in the field, there was only so much medical science could do for a boy in such serious condition. With Dreamweaver's permission, Isaiah recruited Crucis to both examine and treat Xerxes.

This involved Crucis using his magic to delve into Xerxes' mind directly. Once inside, he was able to rearrange Xerxes' emotions to some small extent. By doing this, he hoped to both better understand Xerxes and to shake his repressed memories loose, with the ultimate goal being Xerxes regaining control of his body and mind.

Unfortunately, he greatly underestimated Xerxes' power. Xerxes began to pull him in, deeper and deeper into his headspace, and, for a few brief moments, their minds were as one. Dreamweaver was able to put a stop to the process, but Crucis was not quite himself for many weeks after the incident.

Crucis was one of the nightmare's many targets, and one of a handful of dragons directly victimized by it. While Dreamweaver was away in Aphaster lands, overseeing the cross-continental movement of the Chalcedony Seat, Atsushi quietly slipped into Crucis' workshop and left a piece of the Seat among his scattered belongings.

The stolen piece of the Seat reacted to both Crucis' powerful Arcane aura and the colony of pink celestine he was cultivating in the observatory, resulting in the colony's explosive growth and engulfment of Observatory Hill.

Crucis was able to seal himself in crystal before being overrun by the celestine, and Holloway soon arrived to retrieve him. However, it was Phantasos who, in a show of skill well beyond his years, dispelled the colony and put a stop to its rapid spread. Crucis was largely unharmed, but undeniably shaken.
