Biography
Dragon: 300g
___Legends aside, Uva is a figure that commands respect. They expect nothing but the best from those around them and holds themselves accountable for upholding their high standards. A firm believer in leading by example, Uva will never demand anything from the crew that they cannot bring to the table themselves. Always forthright and honest, Uva is not the type to mince words for the sake of someone's feelings. If they feel that a crewmember is not pulling their weight on the ship, they will not hesitate to confront them and discharge them from their service if they are repeat offenders. Those dragons booted from the ship often bitterly complain about Uva, throwing around words such as cruel and tyrant when describing them. In truth, Uva does not think that they should waste time on dead weight. They feel that they are responsible for the ship and the lives upon it and will not let any form of weakness bring their entire operations down. Though outwardly stern the crew is most important to Uva, and they will happily give anything to protect it.
___Only a chosen handful are allowed to see Uva with their guard down. One is their first mate, a harpy bonded to Uva since their years as a juvenile within the Flock and the other is Ikzan. The latter may surprise some of the Flock should they find out as Ikzan is not protective nor noble as they are, but Uva counts them as a friend and feels that they do not owe anyone else an explanation. Still, neither the reputation of who they chose to mingle with nor the resentful words of former employees have sullied Uva's reputation. They remain a much-celebrated member of the Flock and perhaps the only one to date with a series of bedtime stories centering around their adventures that hatchlings beg to hear.
___They hated the stuffy Archives on sight and were more like to play on the rickety staircases rather than read through the scrolls to find the answers that they sought. Many times Uva was returned to their parents by an annoyed Scribe and after months of this happening their mother decided that enough was enough. If Uva could not behave, they did not belong in as venerated a place as the Archives. Uva never saw this as a loss. Their parents sent them to the Markets instead to learn how to trade with the Trolls, and this is where they met Zelkyr. Theirs is a strange sort of friendship as they could not be more different than Night and Day. Uva was always charismatic and honest whereas Zelkyr managed to spin lies out of the air itself. Both children of the Merchant caste, they were inseparable and permanent fixtures at the market but, Uva's heart always belonged to the ocean.
___In the end, it was Zelkyr that convinced them that they should follow their dream. It didn't matter that they were supposed to be merchants like their forebears before them as nobody said that they should remain landbound. Zelkyr reasoned that Uva could travel the world under the pretext of trade and even devised a way to get them a ship. They'd go to the Lightning dragons and pay in installments. Zelkyr promised to take care of things, and one windy morning Uva's trust in them was rewarded. They set sail with a ragtag band amidst dubious whispers, all of which Uva silenced when months later, they returned with a hull full of treasure. As the Flock celebrated, Uva paid Zelkyr back for the ship and more. After that initial journey, it seemed as if nobody could keep Uva landbound. They have traveled in sight of the Observatory, have slain Maren in the straits of Dragonhome, and still, Uva will set sail as the call of the waves is in their blood and nowhere is the wind sweeter than out in the open ocean.

Backstory: Born on the windswept steps of the Reedcleft Ascent the first thing that filled Uva's vision was the sight of the ocean stretching out for miles and miles before them. They were fascinated by how expansive it was and while still in the nest would often dream of what laid over the horizon. While her clutchmates were preoccupied with food or flight or games, Uva took to bombarding their parents with never-ending questions. What manner of creatures lived in those volatile waters? Were there other landmasses further south from the lands of the Icewarden? What type of boat could weather any storm and make a hundred (or more) journies across the ocean? Uva's parents would try to indulge them as best they could, but as their questions grew beyond them, they started to direct Uva towards the Archives. Nowhere was there a more ill-fitting place to send restless Uva to. |
