The crackling flames
do whisper your name,
rousing memories
ancient yet familiar.
Once you were alive,
normally living a human tale,
but chaos tore through
forcing a knife-edge's choice.
Choosing the righteous path,
you've succumbed to Death,
ashes fall like snow uncontested.
Rise, rise, answer the call,
nothing shall conquer you
nothing shall make you fall.
Fire with all it's silence and storms
fill your blood and eternal soul.

B I O G R A P H Y
______ When she was a young girl, she dreamt of being a scientist or doctor to help people. A daughter to a white-collared family living in the suburbs, she found herself needing little. Things could not remain so idyllic, however, as a militant resistance group torn through the region. They were brutal in their claims for a new world order and shameless as they killed any who they felt were in the wrong. Her father was accused as being a sympathizer to the government, her mother a handler for spies, and killed before her in a blink of an eye as she watched in restraints. She was only eight.
______ She was a prisoner. While most of enslaved were adults, there were other children of varying ages. The days rarely passed with any variation except for when a child would be led away to not return. No one really knew what happened to them. Some suspected that they were sold, others thought they were kept as pets, and a few mercifully hoped that they were killed. All of these children were collectively called The Vanished. Any thoughts that she might have had of investigating, she quickly put out of her mind since the last ones who did showed up mutilated horribly if not dead.
______ Then, one afternoon, she was interrupted mid-shift by a pair of armed guards who roughly dragged her out of the camp. She knew from the averting gazes of the others that she was following the path of The Vanished. Though she struggled initially, she stopped when struck across the face and issued the very serious threat of worse punishment, a private session with an individual known for his taste for the young. The scenery around her passed in a blur as they took hauled her to a nondescript building, the lights in one section flickering erratically. Instinct screamed that nothing good would come from this place.
______ Winding through faintly lit corridors that smelt of antiseptic and a hint of something else, she lost track of where they were in the building. Of the people they passed, she only noticed two types: fighters armed with their weapons, scientists with their white lab coats and files, and miscellaneous workers moving crates. When they paused as a pair of mechanical sliding doors slowly parted open, she looked up to see a large storage room repurposed into a laboratory. The space was sectioned off into cubes with temporary walls of metal and opaque plastic, figures moving to and fro within the spaces.
______ However, none of these cubes seemed to be for her, the guards dragged her past them all towards the opposite end of the room. A large device of burnished metal spanned from floor to ceiling glowed ominously. Three very large cylinders branched off from the central column, creating a strange arc above the device. At the base was a smaller version of the cylinder with myriad of pipes and wires connected to it. The thick door was open, revealing a pad with restraints. A lot of restraints. Her fear grew as her heartbeat thundered in her head as they slowly neared it, step by step.
______ Kicking and screaming as they threw her in and bound her down, she had a small moment of satisfaction as one guard went away with a bloody nose, but that feeling quickly dissipated as the heavy door swung closed and darkness swallowed her. She could hear was her heavy breathing, her heart was racing still, and the sound of machinery shifting through the metal walls. Distantly, she thought she hear roar. Or was it an avian scream? She could not tell. She did not have time to dwell on that as panic returned, the container was slowly filling with fluid. It was not water. Viscous and smelling strangely herbal. She tried her best to stay above it, but it overtook her as small lights lit up several lines going from bottom to top. They pulsed and changed colors slowly at first, then speed up till it was simply a continuous shift of colors. She felt numb and blacked out.
______ She awoke suddenly with a gasp and was jerked back down. It was bright. Excessively bright. Blinking rapidly as her eyes slowly adjusted, she looked about. She was restrained, dressed in a medical gown and strapped down to a bed, in plain room with one wall that had what she knew to be a one-way window. She strained a wrist against its restraint, hearing keenly the leather groan softly before suddenly snapping. Without a batting an eye, she calmly undid the other wrist and got herself out of the rest bindings. Walking up to the mirrored surface, she watched her reflection as it stalked closer. She leaned and peered at herself, touching the cool surface. Something was off. Something was different.
______ When they finally came, she was sitting patiently for them. The scientist was accompanied by six guards, all armed. She tilted her head as she analyzed them, sensed them. She did not know how, but she knew they were on edge. The scientist asked several questions of her, she did not respond to any. The air vibrated with their different energies, it was overwhelming. Her focus was drawn back swiftly as one guard grabbed each of her arms and pulled her to her feet. Reflexively, she pulled both guards down by dropping herself to her knees suddenly, then struck both with her fists and sent them flying away from her. Blinking, she looked at her hands then at the scientist before her. “What did you do to me?”
______ "You were refined,” he returned, adjusting his glasses. The guards behind the man glared at her, their fear hung in the air almost palpably. The scientist continued, “I admit that you surprised us though. There’s only been two others before you to survive.”
______ "Enhanced strength and speed and senses, but before you get any thoughts of grandeur.” He tapped on a device strapped to the back of his offhand before sharply depressing a button on it. Electricity shot through her and floored in paralysis. “We have a contingency to keep you in check. It is in your best interest to follow directions. Do you understand?”
