Theme Song:
Brass Cornet
"Flags of Fury" - Takeharu Ishimoto
It’s generally considered bad luck not to have at least one capable water flight mage aboard a sea vessel. For one thing, the ocean is the Tidelord’s realm, and without one of his children to grant a ship passage, it is usually seen as trespassing to sail. For another, while only the most powerful and well trained soothsayers can peer reliably into the future, any water dragon with even a little education can at least predict the weather a few hours out- an invaluable asset at sea.

While usually these mages are professionals, trained at schools or temples in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, Hydra is... eccentric. A rare, deep ocean species of spiral with bioluminescent spines and a patchy grasp of Common Draconic at the best of times, her magic is closer to what one might class as the purview of a sea witch than a soothsayer or mage. She is definitely not the sort that one would expect to find working for a well-to-do shipping company.

However, when a freak storm whipped up by a dominance battle between Lightning and Wind flight wrecks an entire fleet of trade ships, and you use your bioluminescent spines to guide the drowning crew to a magical air pocket you’ve created and shelter them until the storm passes... It endears you to a few people. And Hydra seems to greatly appreciate not having to hunt for her own dinner.

Like with most water dragons, in recent years her ability to foretell the weather has stopped working properly. However, she still more than pulls her weight as a member of Selene’s security team, and doing general magical odd jobs on the ship.
