Captain 'Calico John' Ruckus
Pirate Captain of The Corona Protector of Realism & Knight of the Round Table "You didn't hire me to play hero."
Origins - Captain Calico John Ruckus was born in a spare nest lent to his parents by the Wraithworld Clan. In their hour of unexpected urgent need the two Fae dragons, Showa and Sanke, stopped at the nearest friendly nest and begged space from the matriarch, Madripoor. The three eggs laid were hatched on Friday the 13th, a most auspicious day for his host clan. At birth his wings bore a pattern, tracing the hereditary splotches perfectly, which made his wings more a map than anything. His parents decided it was a sign from the Lightweaver that their son was to travel more than they ever would, and so they left him behind with their more adventurous hosts to return to their lair in the Shifting Expanse with his brother and sister. Calico John would never see any of them again.
His new clan taught him well; from his Matriarch he learned how to lead, when to insist and when to consider compromise. From her consort he learned irreverence for rules, when those rules did not matter, and a wicked sense of humor. By the time he was a fully-grown dragon, John Ruckus had decided his purpose in life would be to lead, and also to steal. He never steals from those who cannot afford it, he never leads land raids, and to be honest most of his cut of any treasure is sent to various bereaved spouse and orphan charities throughout Sornieth. He's not exactly in it for the money. Calico John's choice of vocation does not bring much honor to his adoptive clan, and they do not entirely approve of the way in which he goes about his vocation. They can, however, admit that he's fulfilled his destiny; he is the best-traveled dragon born to their clan, and he is well-known (some would say infamous) throughout Sornieth. They sent him his familiar as a reward for his good deeds, or perhaps as a reminder and subtle hint that good deeds are better than, say, piratical ones, and he has named it Calico Jack. Together, they run their ship with an iron claw and slobbery maw. Your guess as to which uses what is completely your own. In all his wanderings over the mighty seas of Sornieth in his ship The Corona, Calico John has never learned to swim. Why would he need to, when he can fly? Besides, he read once that it was Tradition for pirates and sailors to not know how to swim, and he does try to be traditional. In keeping with tradition, and because he is nothing if not thorough, Captain Calico John Ruckus and the crew of The Corona are the most feared pirates in all of Sornieth. Personality - Captain Calico, despite his small size, is very much of an intimidating Dragon nonetheless. He's pretty strict and fearsome, never one to back down from a challenge or fight, which paired with a fearsome temper, he tends to fight to get his way no matter what. Despite this, he does have a kinder side which is rarely surfaced, only showing it to his Clan and crew, and even though he comes off as uncaring, he will fight fiercely when those important to him are endangered. Whatever the case, he's a Dragon you rather not make angry. Mate - Calico, a Dragon who spends his days on the high seas with a treasure map in one hand and a compass in another, seems to have no interest in finding a mate. Not yet anyways, from what his crew has seen. Clan Role - Calico spends much of his time as a hunter of long-lost treasures, teaming up at times with the other historians and adventurers of the Clan. As the Captain of The Corona, he tends to be gone for several days which can span to months, out on adventures and hunts for new treasures or anything that catches his eye. Quote:
