Biography
she kills ghosts and shes very warm all the time and she has a coool sword
art by Lola96#450127
wip story zone. im throwing ideas around
content warnings: retching/puking, painful but bloodless injuries, mentioned possible cannibalism, strange compulsive eating habits
Her sword severs a spirit's misshapen spinal column neatly. The gaseous thing struggles to exist for several moments, then vanishes with an empty screech. Its bones cease their floating and scatter on the packed dirt.
Jag sheathes her sword and jerks her head to dislodge her wolf cape's snout, uncovering her own nostrils. She sniffs at the bones, recognizing... something, or someone she knew once. This whole place reeks of that familiarity. It bugs her that she knows these bones, it always does, but there's never a clue to figuring out who they belonged to or how they found their way here.
So, no matter. She takes the bones in her mouth, chews them and swallows without care. If she left them here, on the ground, some other ghastly amalgamate would pick them up, and she'd be tasked with destroying them again. Bones are easy, like bark in winter. It all comes back up eventually, but meat comes up with vitriol. Regurgitation was a small price to pay for the certainty of battles that actually end and for the thrill of being an obligate herbivore that eats what-might-have-been-people. And, of course, any surviving bones and extant bits of spirit could fetch her some gold at market. Everyone wins, but especially Jag.
She pushes her wolf back in place. It doesn't remove the scents of known-but-forgotten things, but it does muffle their constant assault. Scents ferment in warmth, and the wolf is dreadful warm. It smells like the violence of its death and her own musk. Familiar-and-known.
A large stone falls a ways off, a dull heavy sound. It's quiet for a moment, then return the whistle of leafless trees swaying in the gentle wind and the rustle-crack of fireweed. Underneath is a distant shuffling across dirt and grass and stone, something unsteady on its feet.
The ruins shift often; it's a busy place with what seems like all of Sornieth's dead reforming into strange bodies aggrieved with sudden life.
Jag listens for a long while, but the unsteady shuffling thing remains distant, even as it passes around her in circles. She worries, not for any sense in her self, but for an imposition in the air. It's an undirected sense of fear that turns her sick-hot. Blood travels slowly, burning, pushing through her limbs in waves. It eats at her bones and her eaten bones threaten to chuck up early.
She spreads her wings to catch a cooling wind and she's buried in its wake, caked in dirt and ash and ground up bone, body grating across broken tiles. A bone grasped like a knife pierces her membrane, breaks a wing's finger, pins her to the dirt. Her hands find purchase beneath her chest and she pushes to right herself but the wolf chokes her. Her struggle rolls her over, twisting painfully her pinned wing. Her belly convulses as she retches.
She fights for a solid breath. The sky falls and scatters on the packed dirt. Dust settles around her like a murky creek bed. It's quiet again. The shuffling thing is gone, but the smog of a thousand known-but-forgotten things hangs in the air.
The ruins are amassing something terrible.
she took home not one but two malevolent spirits but has yet to take home a disoriented spirit. chewing bones makes them spawn as More disoriented? more unplaceable familiarity? disoriented = disorienting... narrative effect: stranger words? its a strange and difficult presence
yyyyyyyy may 30 got TWO disorient drops B) story proceed: recognize presence of spirit, hunt it down, reach an understanding. callback to similar encounter with malevolent spirit
