Biography

"Nah-uh!"
"Yeah-huh-huh!"
"Naawww..."
"Is SO!"

Keylime and Aleck were more or less the sorts of friends drawn together by one powerful commonality, but perhaps wouldn't have even cared to look at each other again without it. If there was anything at all that they could be counted on, it could be that even without consulting the other, they would take the opposite opinion. More than one dragon of the lair has tested that theory. They only ever agreed on the facts.

"I think you fell for another one of Hermes tricks." Aleck sniffed with an air of knowing.

Keylime sniffed back, because it couldn't be argued that he didn't constantly fall for Hermes' tricks. It was a matter of principle. Plague dragons should stick together. Or at least that's how he'd originally thought. It was one of those arguments he'd had to concede on finally, and agree that Aleck's first thought was right. Birth territories didn't mean you were invincible to pranking dragons.

"I didn't this time. And I don't know why you can't believe it. It's better than YOU. Believing that Azriel could click her heels together 'n' make the world disappear, 'n' can talk to birds 'n' everything else!"

"She can so talk to birds!" Aleck screeched back. He'd conceded that maybe he'd allowed Jacklyn's bedtime stories get the best of his imagination. No dragon but Windchaser himself was powerful enough to destroy everything! But he clung to the idea that Azriel could talk to birds with the sort of stubbornness that might one day make a believer even out of Keylime. Aleck noted with some disgust that Keylime didn't even blink at the screech.

How long had they been little now? Would he ever be able to properly screech like the big wildclaws?

"Then why can't Seer be called Seer 'cause he sees outta his wings? I bet it's even more than that." Keylime was puffing up as much as he could, trying to look big just as Aleck tried to sound big. Big looked important enough to be believed, and maybe if he puffed up enough, this infuriating wildclaw would stop arguing with him all the time! "I bet he can see beyond, the way Jacklyn does, and so that's why he's so amazing!"

"Amazing!' Aleck's voice was just a little shriller now that Keylime brought Jacklyn into the conversation. How'd he know who'd he'd been thinking about? He kicked at the ground with a scoff. He knew Keylime couldn't read minds any more than he could. "Creepy, weird, and should be avoided at all costs!"

"Uhmfffugh!" Keylime grunted, and plopped himself on the ground. He looked very much like an overgrown pea for the seconds he closed his eyes. "Was cool, thought you'd like it. Why do I even try?"

"Ppbbbttthh." Aleck half spat back in return, but ended on a sigh as well. "What do you think Cami thinks?"

Keylime perked up then. That had been a battle royale, back when the tea-making wildclaw was new to them. Like Jacklyn, who regaled them with stories to catch their imaginations and grip their growing knowledge that could almost, but just not quite, be understood as the adults they should be, Cami had guessed immediately how to make their double curse of disagreement work to both their and her advantage. She made them love and hate her all at once, by brewing the favorite teas (naturally "the most disgusting ever!" to the other) and then offering it to the wrong eternal youth. It was just the sort of paradox they needed to be able to agree: she was both the best and worst member of the clan.

And they often visited her together, where they could do what they liked best: enjoy one another's company in silent understanding of their very similar existence, no matter the differing of opinions.
